<p>Department CED/Code Enforcement Type of Position Full-time Salary/Pay Rate $64,000 - $80,000 annual Deadline to Apply ongoing MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Current Pennsylvania UCC certification in mechanical and plumbing for residential, commercial inspections; high school diploma or equivalent; training in mechanical and plumbing code installations; comprehensive knowledge of heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), and mechanical codes related to installation, repair, and maintenance; complete knowledge of plumbing practices for installation, repair, and maintenance; thorough understanding of municipal and international mechanical and plumbing codes and related ordinances.</p> <p>REQUIREMENTS Must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment medical exam, and drug screen. NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED The Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector is responsible for inspecting new and existing buildings and structures (industrial, commercial, residential, and institutional) to ensure compliance with mechanical and plumbing codes and specifications. This position reports to the Chief Building Inspector.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Inspects new and existing buildings and structures (industrial, commercial, residential and institutional) to ensure compliance with HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing codes; reviews HVAC and plumbing permit applications and issues permits; maintains detailed inspection records, noting actions taken and corrections recommended; provides code-related information and guidance to architects, contractors, engineers and citizens; investigates complaints regarding defective HVAC and plumbing installations; recommends condemnation of faulty systems when necessary.</p> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; strong interpersonal skills for working with contractors, citizens, and City officials; ability to write clear, concise reports and describe technical problems effectively; proficiency in verbal and written communication to explain codes and standards; solid understanding of basic mathematics principles.</p> <p>HOW TO APPLY Please submit a resume or application to jobs@bethlehem-pa.gov.
