<p>The City of Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the medical team at Chesapeake Juvenile Services. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Medical Doctor (MD), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to residents in a secure juvenile detention environment. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position plays a critical role in supporting the health and well-being of youth in the facility through routine care, medication administration, triage, and emergency response.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Collect and manage sick call slips from housing units during assigned shifts. </li><li>Triage residents to evaluate the necessity for treatment. </li><li>Administer medications to residents as prescribed by the physician. </li><li>Maintain an accurate inventory of medical supplies and prescription medications. </li><li>Monitor residents during medication administration and report any adverse reactions to the supervising nurse. </li><li>Interpret physician instructions for residents and address any questions they may have concerning their medical treatment. </li><li>Respond effectively to emergencies while practicing within the scope of LPN licensure as defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing. </li><li>Conduct chart audits and ensure the timely resupply of chart forms as necessary. </li><li>Document nursing notes promptly, including Medication Administration Records (MARS). </li></ul> <p>The City of Chesapeake offers an exceptional range of benefits. Please browse our Benefits Brochure for a full list of benefits and employee perks.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>Requires a diploma in practical nursing.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.</p> <p>SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:</p> <ul> <li>Requires licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Commonwealth of Virginia or a reciprocal state (according to the Nurse Licensure Compact as prescribed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing). </li><li>Requires certification in CPR, Multi-media First Aid, and Handle With Care. </li><li>May require a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City's Driving Standards. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing Program in Virginia or a compact state. </li><li>A comprehensive understanding of nursing practices, procedures, emergency protocols, and medication administration. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to apply established nursing protocols and standing orders effectively. </li><li>Capacity to consult with Registered Nurses or Medical Doctors as needed. </li><li>Consistent follow-through in providing direct care to patients as indicated. </li><li>Accurate transcription and implementation of physician orders in their entirety. </li></ul> <p>Special Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Current CPR, BLS, and First Aid certifications. </li><li>Relevant experience in delivering clinical care within secure environments, ambulatory care settings, or public health, particularly involving pediatric and adolescent patients. </li></ul>
