<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Bloomfield Public Schools anticipates openings for the role of Special Education Teacher at Laurel Elementary for the 2025/26 School Year.</p> <p>Location: Laurel Elementary</p> <p>Salary: Teachers BEA Agreement</p> <p>Work Year: Ten-month position (186 days) 7.25 hours/day</p> <p>The Special Education Teacher provides instruction in the following areas: academic, social emotional, behavioral, adaptive, and/or functional living skills by differentiating instruction and using a variety of teaching strategies, materials, and assistive technology to capitalize on students learning styles.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Comprehensive knowledge of the impact of various disabilities on student learning. </li><li>Knowledge of general principles of SRBI and how it relates to special education. </li><li>Knowledge of assistive technology devices that can help students access the general curriculum. </li><li>Knowledge of content and curriculum of grade levels of students on caseload. </li><li>Ability to: </li><li>Apply current research and theory to instructional programs. </li><li>Assess student needs in order to develop and implement IEPs. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, parents and the community. </li><li>Establish a rapport with all students. </li><li>Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents and the community. </li><li>Lift or position non-ambulatory students. </li><li>Use physical restraint as a last resort to ensure student and adult safety. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications/Competencies Required Education and/or Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions </li><li>knowledge of strong, validated, evidenced-based intervention programs </li><li>A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience,preferred but not required </li><li>Well-developed oral, written and speaking skills </li></ul> <p>Certifications/Licenses/Registrations Required:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut certification with the appropriate endorsement for Special Education Teacher 165 or 065 or be immediately eligible for appropriate Connecticut Certification endorsement for Special Education Teacher </li></ul> <p>EOE</p>
