<p>Katharine Reese Endowed Professor of Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare and Director of the LCSVM Katharine Reese Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare Program</p> <p>Overview: The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine (LCSVM) is seeking applications and nominations for the Katharine Reese Endowed Professor of Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare and Director of the LCSVM Katherine Reese Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare Program. We are seeking a dynamic faculty committed to advancing excellence in veterinary education, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting academic success among our students. Furthermore, we are pursuing an innovative, creative, collaborative faculty to engage within an inspired academic community to reimagine and transform veterinary medical education aimed at creating a vibrant learning ecosystem that graduates not only career ready, but future ready veterinarians to meet the ever-evolving healthcare needs of the 21st Century and beyond</p> <p>The Katharine Reese Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare Program will be a distinct feature of the LCSVM and a program of excellence in education, research, and outreach. The position combines a leadership role in the proposed center of excellence with clinical practice, teaching, outreach, and research to enhance shelter animal welfare and public health.</p> <p>Program Mission: "To advance the welfare of animals and the people who care for them, while promoting the best outcome for every individual animal, through compassionate service, education, and generation of new knowledge."</p> <p>Program Vision: "To graduate veterinarians with a deep understanding of shelter medicine who are well-prepared to support animals in need, animal shelters, and the communities in which they are located, while furthering the education of veterinarians, veterinary students, animal shelters, and the public."</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching, service, and scholarly activities related to shelter medicine, animal welfare, and human-animal interaction. </li><li>Lead the LCSVM Katharine Reese Shelter Medicine & Animal Welfare Program and develop it into a center of excellence. </li><li>Work closely with the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation in fulfilling the missions of both AARF and LCSVM. </li><li>Work closely with Cabot Animal Support Services and those who support it to create and sustain a viable partnership in creation of a center of excellence. </li><li>Work closely with other shelters in Arkansas, the veterinarians who serve them, and local communities/governments that support them. </li><li>Provide innovative didactic and clinical instruction for hands-on learning in the veterinary curriculum, including medical and surgical care, wellness, population management, animal welfare, and human-animal interaction. Incorporate modern principles of pedagogy/andragogy and technology enhanced learning wherever possible. </li><li>Participate in community outreach and education programs to promote responsible pet ownership, improved adoption rates, and increased awareness of animal welfare, the human animal bond, and the impact of animals in society. </li><li>Develop internship and residency training programs, as possible. </li></ul> <p>For all positions:</p> <ul> <li>Provide education, mentorship, and guidance to students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, laboratory, and simulation center in the discipline of anatomical sciences. </li><li>Participate in student assessment, feedback, and remediation to ensure that students meet LCSVM's high academic standards in the areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities. </li><li>Participate in curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement. </li><li>Provide service to Lyon College and the greater community by serving on committees, providing leadership, participating in community outreach events, and working with professional organizations and groups. </li><li>Maintain discipline and teaching expertise through continuing professional education. </li><li>Engage in scholarly activity, such as research, authorship, presentations at conferences, innovations, entrepreneurship, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities. </li></ul> <p>Rank:</p> <ul> <li>Rank will be either Full Professor or Associate Professor depending upon qualifications. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school. </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Board certification in shelter medicine and/or another relevant AVBS recognized specialty. </li><li>Strong background and demonstrated experience in this field. </li><li>Prior experience within a veterinary or medical school. </li><li>Demonstrated leadership experience in educational and/or professional settings. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the delivery of veterinary/medical education, including an understanding of the principles of andragogy and pedagogy and their application in a professional curriculum. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and expertise in the discipline. </li><li>Demonstrated record of advancing innovation and creativity. </li><li>Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to develop and lead a program of excellence and develop and sustain a highly functioning team. </li><li>Record of successfully contributing to collaborative teams. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented success. </li><li>Commitment to animal welfare, human-animal interaction, and community service. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment in a new school of veterinary medicine. </li><li>Dedication to innovative, effective teaching and learning. </li><li>Intention to pursue board certification in shelter medicine, if not already board certified. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment: This position will be based at the new Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine in Cabot, Arkansas. The LCSVM is co-located with Cabot Animal Support Services (CASS). CASS is a local, state, and national model for shelter medicine, animal welfare, community relations, and education.</p> <p>As a private institution, Lyon College offers advantages of nimbleness in encouraging innovations.
