<p>Position: 0.5 Medical Assisting Teacher</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time</p> <p>Department: Career and Technical Education, Secondary</p> <p>Location: Watertown High School</p> <p>Reports to: CTE Coordinator and Principal</p> <p>Affiliation: Watertown Educators' Association, Unit A</p> <p>Salary range: per the WEA Unit A Salary Scale</p> <p>General Description:</p> <p>Watertown High School is seeking candidates who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, who are excited about bringing vocational opportunities to students in a traditional high school to teach as a Medical Assisting Teacher and a Building-Based Substitute Teacher.</p> <p>This is a position paired with the HS Building-Based Sub job posting. For the SY 2025-2026, responsibilities will consist of teaching three sections of the first and second year medical assisting classes, and covering 2-3 classes per day as a substitute. The medical assisting curriculum will be aligned with the Massachusetts Chapter 74 state frameworks for Medical Assisting. The Building-Based Substitute Teacher will perform the in-person instructional practices outlined by the teacher who is absent. The candidate should have a strength in managing and leading classroom schedules and activities that define the school day.</p> <p>For 2026-2027, the position transitions to that of a full-time 1.0 Medical Assisting teacher, utilizing the Massachusetts Health Services Curriculum Framework Medical Assisting standards, teaching medical assisting to high school students.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Medical Assisting:</p> <ul> <li>Teach courses in health and safety practices, types of health care, professional behavior in clinical settings, verbal and non-verbal communication, collect a medical history, respond to patient needs, electronic medical records, administrative skills, techniques in infection control, emergency and triage procedures, medical specialty procedures, basic principles of nutrition, rehabilitation and functional activities, basic laboratory skills, medications, and venipuncture </li><li>Develop and implement rigorous, standards-based lesson plans that foster student engagement. </li><li>Assess student learning and adjust instruction to promote growth. </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues and administration to enhance the CTE program. </li><li>Engage families and community partners in supporting student success. </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies: Using the Massachusetts Model System for Educators Rubric, priority skills and abilities that all Watertown Public School teachers should possess:</p> <p>Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment</p> <p>(Subject Matter Knowledge, Well-Structured Lessons, Curriculum and Planning Indicator, Child and Adolescent Development)</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates mastery of and enthusiasm for the content area and the pedagogy it requires </li><li>Can convey a grasp of child development and how students learn </li><li>Designs effective and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes. </li></ul> <p>Teaching All Students</p> <p>(Meeting Diverse Needs, Student Engagement, Safe Learning Environment)</p> <ul> <li>Uses instructional practices that are likely to challenge, motivate, and engage all students and facilitate equitable, active student participation </li><li>Builds a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued as part of the class community </li><li>Cultural Proficiency </li><li>Actively creates and maintains an environment in which students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected </li></ul> <p>Family and Community Engagement</p> <p>(Parent/Family Engagement)</p> <ul> <li>Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning </li><li>Professional Reflection & Collaboration </li></ul> <p>Professional Culture</p> <p>(Reflective Practice, Professional Collaboration)</p> <ul> <li>Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development </li><li>Seeks to participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>MA DESE Vocational Certification in Medical Assisting (or licensable/in-process certification). </li><li>Associate degree or higher related to the subject matter and skills taught </li><li>Current national certification as a medical assistant or medical assistant/secretary (or licensable/in-process certification). </li><li>Four years of full-time employment experience directly related to medical assisting (or part-time experience that is equivalent to at least four years full-time) </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>SEI-Endorsement and 3 years of teaching experience preferred </li><li>Multi-lingual and diverse candidates encouraged to apply </li><li>Experience in a school or community setting working with children </li><li>Knowledge in utilizing technological tools such as iPads, Chromebooks as well as the Google Classroom platform is preferred </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Watertown Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
