Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Political Science Department is seeking motivated and responsible students to serve as Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors play a crucial role in supporting fellow students in the Political Science program by offering guidance on academic assignments, class expectations, and effective study habits. This position will involve collaboration with Program Leads, Faculty and the Political Science Administrative Assistant, to ensure that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically and socially within the program.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Information Gathering: Meet regularly with the Program Lead and Faculty to obtain information about course assignments, class expectations, and academic standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Student Mentorship: Mentor a group of assigned students, providing assistance with academic needs such as understanding course material, managing time effectively, completing homework, and maintaining accountability.</p> </li><li> <p>Academic Support: Offer advice on study techniques, resource utilization, and strategies for improving academic performance.</p> </li><li> <p>Social Linkages: Create and facilitate social connections among students that encourage positive academic behaviors and help students return to and maintain good academic standing.</p> </li><li> <p>Progress Monitoring: Track and report the academic progress of mentees to the Program Lead and Faculty, providing insights into challenges and successes.</p> </li><li> <p>Workshops and Events: Assist in organizing and leading workshops, study sessions, and other events designed to enhance student engagement and academic success.</p> </li><li> <p>Resource Referral: Direct students to appropriate campus resources such as tutoring services, counseling, and academic advising when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Other assigned tasks</p> </li><li> <p>Strong performance in key Political Science courses.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain concepts and build rapport with peers.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in regular feedback sessions with the Program Lead.</p> </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <p>Upper-Division Courses Completed</p> <p>Current student in good academic standing, majoring or minoring in Political Science.</p> <p>Work Experience</p> <p>6 Months of Directly Relevant Experience</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Typical classroom environment</p> <p>Base Rate Per Hour:</p> <p>14.50</p>
