<p>General Statement of Duties</p> <p>This employee performs basic electrical maintenance duties in which he/she installs, modifies, and maintains in efficient operating condition electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, equipment and motors so that all City departments (with the exception of Traffic Engineering) can provide such services as water, sewage disposal, lighting of public buildings and recreational facilities, and to provide emergency alarm systems to the community. Employee troubleshoots, repairs, and/or modifies, and replaces damaged, malfunctioning, and worn electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment; works on equipment that operates voltages less than 600 volts (low voltage); may direct, orient, and demonstrate work to new workers who are assigned to assist on a given project in order to familiarize them with equipment, tools, work procedures, etc., and to assure safety. Performs related duties as required.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)</p> <p>(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <p>Basic arithmetic functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals using associated measuring devices such as micrometer, etc.</p> <p>Electrical test equipment.</p> <p>Proper operation of electrical motors to read and interpret motor nameplates and to diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions.</p> <p>Safety precautions when working with electricity, around machinery, in traffic, at heights, in confined areas, and with tools in order to protect self and others from injury.</p> <p>Basic first aid needed for industrial and electrical work environment such as artificial respiration, treatment of electrical burns, shock, etc.</p> <p>Electrical current flow potential to make certain all equipment and circuits are grounded safely.</p> <p>Hardware used in the trade.</p> <p>Electrical trade language.</p> <p>Common symbols used on work orders and schematics.</p> <p>Parallel lighting circuits.</p> <p>Basic electrical circuits.</p> <p>How various circuits, equipment, and controls operate, fit, and work together.</p> <p>Protective devices used in electrical systems.</p> <p>Various methods of joining wires and cables and making connection.</p> <p>Skill to:</p> <p>Install hardware safely.</p> <p>Use electrical test equipment safely such as ammeters, voltmeters, meggars, VOM's wattmeters.</p> <p>Use tools such as general construction hand tools, electrical hand tools, and small power tools.</p> <p>Wire lights, fixtures, motors, controllers, and transformers.</p> <p>Pull, splice, and connect wiring and test completed circuits.</p> <p>Drive bucket trucks, aerial trucks, and similar trucks.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Calculate Ohm's Law and other related formulas to calculate resistance, current, voltage, and load.</p> <p>Read, interpret, make and work from basic schematics and one line and block drawings.</p> <p>Read, interpret, and familiarize self with manuals for new equipment.</p> <p>Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.</p> <p>Demonstrate mechanical/electrical aptitude.</p> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <p>Promotional: Each applicant must have one year of experience as an Electrical Maintenance Helper with the City of Cincinnati. Individuals with one year of satisfactory job performance may be promoted to Electrical Maintenance Worker 1 without further examination.</p> <p>Open: Each applicant must have two years of full-time, paid experience in basic electrical repair or maintenance work OR successfully completed at least two years of a four year electrical apprenticeship program. In addition, each applicant must have completed a full trade school program (high school level) in electrical or electronic repair or maintenance OR have 12 credit hours of electrical maintenance and repair courses through an accredited college level program.</p> <p>OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Must have a valid Driver's License.</p> <p>A valid Commercial Driver's License may be required for certain assignments.</p> <p>Vision suitable for reading test instrument gauges accurately.</p> <p>Ability to work in confined spaces.</p> <p>Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc., and work at great heights.</p> <p>Strength to safely pull cable through conduit, lift and carry toolboxes, electric panels, and other heavy equipment.</p> <p>Color vision sufficient to distinguish between basic colors and shades of colors to analyze color-coded wiring systems.</p> <p>Sufficient finger dexterity to handle small fittings and do precise work inside boxes and equipment.</p> <p>When assigned, must be willing to work on irregular and/or rotating, split, or night shifts and to respond to emergency calls when necessary.</p> <p>Must be willing and able to drive assigned vehicles when necessary and to operate mechanical equipment when necessary.</p> <p>MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION</p> <p>Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.</p> <p>Working and Physical Conditions</p> <p>Jeseca Norman, Jeseca.Norman@gcww.cincinnati-oh.gov</p>
