<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Academic Coach at Dean College provides a strategy-based approach to academic success for students enrolled in Academic Coaching, a fee-based learning support program open to all students. Academic Coaches work with students to address immediate academic needs while fostering the development of long-term skills in studying, reading, organization, and self-regulation. The goal is to help students become independent, self-directed learners. Students gain skills in time management, study strategies, test preparation, and long-term academic planning through their experience in Academic Coaching.</p> <p>This is a part-time position during the fall and spring semesters, requiring 10 to 29 hours per week over a 14-week period each semester. Academic Coaches must be available to work additional days/evenings or occasional weekends to make up hours when necessary.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Provide individualized, strategy-based academic support (e.g., time management, long-term planning, test preparation, note-taking, and assignment assistance); </li><li>Foster a student-centered learning environment that actively supports academic success; </li><li>Attend on-campus training sessions and professional development workshops; </li><li>Document and analyze student attendance and performance in coaching sessions; </li><li>Motivate students and provide appropriate referrals when needed; </li><li>Guide and assist students in using online learning platforms and tools, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Canvas; </li><li>Support Morton Family Learning Center staff with special projects or administrative tasks as assigned by the Assistant Director. </li><li>Other duties as assigned and/or required. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field required. </li><li>Experience working with students with learning differences, including diagnosed learning disabilities. </li><li>Commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Knowledge of student development theory and learning styles. </li><li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. </li><li>Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office. </li><li>Experience using virtual meeting software. </li><li>Ability to work on a computer for extended periods. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
