<p>Provides instruction for both land- and water-based fitness classes to individuals and groups. Maintains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment to ensure high-quality programming that aligns with department goals. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports directly to the Recreation Program Supervisor. </p> <p>Shift Hours and/or Days Worked: Varies depending on group fitness classes being taught</p> <p>Hours Required for this position: Varies: 3 to 5 per week ~ Instructs safe, engaging land and aquatic fitness classes for individuals and groups.</p> <p>~ Ensures instruction aligns with industry standards and participant needs.</p> <p>~ Motivates participants to achieve personal wellness goals and return for future classes.</p> <p>~ Maintains a positive and inclusive class atmosphere for all ages and abilities.</p> <p>~ Interacts proactively with members, guests, and staff to support a welcoming environment.</p> <p>~ Remains current on fitness trends and adapts programming accordingly.</p> <p>~ Begins and ends classes on time; ensures proper use and storage of all equipment.</p> <p>~ Recommends new or replacement equipment as needed.</p> <p>~ Builds and maintains effective working relationships with team members and the public.</p> <p>~ Fosters teamwork and a positive work culture through daily interactions and attitude.</p> <p>~ Participates in team meetings and professional development activities.Education:</p> <p>Required: Education or training resulting in certifications from nationally recognized fitness organizations in group or personal training, health, fitness, or wellness.</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Required: At least one (1) year of experience instructing land or aquatic fitness classes.</p> <p>Preferred: Two (2) or more years of experience teaching a variety of classes or managing fitness programs.</p> <p>Certifications/Licenses:</p> <p>Required: Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record.</p> <p>Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.</p> <p>Preferred: Nationally accredited group exercise, personal training, or aquatic fitness certifications.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <p>Knowledge of principles and practices of both land and aquatic fitness instruction.</p> <p>Ability to plan and lead both group and individual sessions.</p> <p>Knowledge of age-appropriate and inclusive exercise adaptations.</p> <p>Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.</p> <p>Ability to communicate clearly with participants and coworkers.</p> <p>Ability to manage classes safely and effectively.</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <p>Subject to a background check and Child Protective Services screening. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must meet the physical and environmental demands of the position.</p>
