The facility includes multiple general population housing complexes, an admission and orientation unit, and a secure housing area. Its campus-style layout includes medical services, food and laundry operations, indoor recreation areas, a chapel, and Providence Jr./Sr. High School. Outdoor recreation areas include fields, courts, and a running track. The perimeter is monitored 24/7 to ensure safety. Programs focus on treatment, vocational skills, education, and re-entry preparation. To learn more about Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, click here.</p> <p>Role Overview:</p> <p>As a Correctional Captain, you will be responsible for the management, supervision, and safety of the facility, incarcerated individuals, coworkers, and the general public. In addition, you must interpret and apply the IDOC facility rules, policies, and procedures in a firm, fair, and consistent manner to both incarcerated individuals and staff. You will be responsible for the review and development of policies and procedures related to custody. In the event of an emergency, effective leadership must be immediately exhibited.</p> <p>Salary Statement:</p> <p>The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.</p> <p>A Day in the Life:</p> <p>The essential functions of this role are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee daily inspections of the units. </li><li>Track, properly vet, and report all incidents to the Operations Center. </li><li>Direct assigned staff in maintaining the security and safety of offenders, buildings, and grounds. </li><li>Manage staff including training, time management, time off approvals, specific shift assignments, corrective action and performance evaluations. </li><li>Assist in identifying offender treatment needs and support programs for treatment and rehabilitation which may include encouraging offenders to accept professional assistance and treatment from staff as needed. </li><li>Counsel offenders in an informal and unofficial capacity. </li><li>Oversee the records on shift reports, policy and procedure updates and violations of policies and procedures. </li><li>Direct staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. </li><li>Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. </li><li>Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures. </li></ul> <p>The job profile is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.</p> <p>What You'll Need for Success:</p> <p>Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a valid driver's license. </li><li>Must test negative on all drug screenings. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices utilized in a correctional environment. </li><li>Ability to supervise and achieve desired results from offenders and staff. </li><li>Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including giving clear directions. </li><li>Ability to collaborate with other departmental requests regarding custody needs. </li><li>Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. </li><li>Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets. </li></ul> <p>You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:</p> <ul> <li>Complete all mandatory training including?the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses. </li></ul> <p>A degree is not required.
