Turn away from the computer screen and face the person you are conversing with. </li><li>Explain any potential delays in service and provide frequent updates. </li><li>Empathize (feel empathy for someone) </li></ul> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Conduct comprehensive telephone assessments using established triage protocols and sound nursing judgment. </li><li>Prioritize and respond to calls involving critical labs, urgent clinical questions, and provider-directed concerns to ensure timely care. </li><li>Determine the urgency of patient needs and provide clear recommendations, including self-care advice, scheduling acute care appointments, or directing patients to higher levels of care when necessary. </li><li>Document all patient interactions thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). </li><li>Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and care team members to ensure continuity and coordination of care. </li><li>Provide patient education regarding symptoms, medications, laboratory/infusion orders and follow-up instructions. </li><li>Monitor and manage incoming patient messages and phone calls in accordance with established triage response timelines. </li><li>Recognize and escalate "red flag" symptoms that require immediate provider involvement or emergency referral. </li><li>Participate in quality improvement initiatives to support patient safety, access, and satisfaction. </li><li>Follows all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Required Education and/ or Experience:</p> <ul> <li>This position requires an active RN License for the state(s) of practice. Bachelor's degree (B.S.N.) from a four-year college or university preferred; Associate's degree or diploma acceptable. </li><li>Position requires three or more years of RN experience in a critical care setting, i.e., ICU, ED. </li><li>Current CPR certification, if not it must be obtained within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter. </li></ul> <p>General Skill Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent oral and written communication </li><li>Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. </li><li>Experience with a Practice Management system is preferred. </li><li>Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders </li></ul> <p>Physical/ Mental Demands:</p> <p>Requires the ability to hear and speak clearly. This position is normally required to sit approximately ninety (90) percent of the day with an occasional need to walk, bend, twist and carry 5-10 pounds a distance up to four (4) feet. This position requires the ability to answer telephone calls, transfer calls and work on the computer.</p>
