<p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Swim Instructor/Swim Coach is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality swim instruction and coaching to individuals and groups in accordance with YMCA guidelines and program standards. This role promotes water safety, swimming skills, and personal growth in a positive, inclusive environment that reflects the YMCA's mission and core values.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead swim lessons or team practices for children and/or adults, adapting teaching methods to participants' varying ages and skill levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Instruct participants in swimming techniques, water safety, and proper stroke development.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and maintaining a watchful presence at all times.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide clear, constructive feedback to swimmers to help improve their performance and confidence.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and incident reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate effectively with parents, participants, and staff to provide a positive customer service experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Set up, clean, and maintain equipment and the pool area before and after each session.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend staff meetings and required training, including CPR, First Aid, and YMCA aquatic safety certifications.</p> </li><li> <p>Promote and represent the YMCA mission, values, and programs in a professional and positive manner.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding or Safety Training for Swim Coaches (or willingness to obtain).</p> </li><li> <p>YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent (preferred).</p> </li><li> <p>Prior experience teaching swim lessons or coaching swim teams strongly preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication and interpersonal skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to engage and motivate participants of all ages and abilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.</p> </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to swim and demonstrate all major strokes.</p> </li><li> <p>Physically able to be in the pool for extended periods.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift equipment and assist participants as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and communicate effectively.</p> </li><li> <p>Position may require early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours.</p> </li></ul>
