<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>The mission of the Program in English as a Second Language in the English Department is to support the University's multilingual students by providing academic English language instruction, to enhance undergraduate education through work with international teaching assistants, to train prospective English language teachers, and to support the University's community and international outreach goals. Additional duties include overseeing the administration of the SPEAK Test and the English as a Second Language Assessment Test (ESLAT).</p> <p>Teach for the ESL program each semester. Duties include holding regular office hours, grading and evaluation of students, participating in Welcome Week duties, and attendance at section and program meetings. A full-time teaching load is typically three courses per semester. Those courses include:</p> <p>English 114: Intermediate English Language Skills</p> <p>English 115: Grammar for Academic Use</p> <p>English 116: Academic Reading and Vocabulary Skills</p> <p>English 117: Academic Writing I</p> <p>English 118: Academic Writing II</p> <p>Additional duties may include assisting in coordination of sections, mentoring and program support duties, acting as master teachers for TESOL Certificate students and new staff, contributing to curriculum and materials development, serving on Program and campus committees, participating in the Program's outreach activities, and supporting the Program's mission as needed. Additional duties to meet program needs may be required by the Director.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.</p> <p>Appointment Type, Duration:</p> <p>Ongoing/Renewable</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>Minimum $50,000 ACADEMIC (9 months)</p> <p>Depending on Qualifications</p> <p>The minimum starting salary for this position is $50,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary will be paid out over 9 months. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as sick leave; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
