Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.</p> <p>Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an energetic and engaging individual to fill the role of Instructor of Natural Resources - Environmental Management (credit-programs). This position will serve Southwest Virginia Community College's Business, Engineering, and Industrial Technology Division. Instructional workload will be based on current demand and on a contract basis. Instruction will be conducted at the main campus, and off-campus for field trips, business tours, and experiential education activities and events. These outings and trips are an important part of the curriculum and provide a real-world element to the program. Travel may be required. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and create a student-oriented learning environment. Classes may be offered during day, evening, or weekend hours with days, dates, and times are negotiable.</p> <p>Courses to be taught could include Concepts in Ecology, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Environmental Management, adventure-based courses, and other outdoor related topics. Courses taught will be based on prior knowledge and experience.</p> <p>Responsibilities Include:</p> <ul> <li>Creates course curriculum, assignments, and learning objectives. </li><li>Must possess ability to prepare/adjust curriculum and training content to relate to various audiences. </li><li>Proven ability and previous track record of serving as a brand ambassador to support the recruitment of potential students. </li><li>Ability to plan, organize, and work independently. </li><li>Expected to be reliable, responsible, professional, and efficient. </li><li>Promotes and supports student success. </li><li>Administer exams and evaluate student progress. </li><li>Create an engaging instructional environment to a diverse population of students from various backgrounds. </li><li>Other duties may be assigned as required. </li></ul> <p>Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must have strong communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills. </li><li>Successful candidate must possess a minimum of two years of work experience in biology, ecology, outdoor recreation, tourism, environmental science, natural resource management or related field. </li><li>Successful applicant must be safety oriented and ensure all guidelines are always followed by staff and students alike. </li><li>Extensive prior experience in adventure related activities of cycling, bike packing, kayaking, climbing/bouldering, and/or backpacking with knowledge of the outdoor industry, principles of leave no trace, risk management, program planning, and customer service. </li><li>Bachelor's degree in related field. </li></ul> <p>Additional Considerations:</p> <ul> <li>Prior community college teaching experience is preferred. </li><li>Experience utilizing technology in the classroom </li><li>Master's degree in related field. </li></ul>
