Appropriate NYS certification in ASL 7-12 is required.The West Islip Union Free School District UFSD is actively seeking a highly qualified American Sign Language (ASL) teacher who is well-versed in the ACTFL / NYS World Language Standards and dedicated to a literacy-based approach to language education. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, collaborative and proficient in assessing student progress while providing constructive feedback. They must also demonstrate a passion for teaching ASL and possess effective communication skills in the target language. The chosen candidate will play a vital role in developing and implementing an engaging ASL curriculum, integrating ASL into cross-disciplinary literacy initiatives, have a strong awareness of Deaf Culture and foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment. At times, additional support for students may be necessary to nurture their success.
