<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Success & Career Advisor is a critical member within a centralized advising and career center that works collaboratively with Deans and Program Coordinators in a team approach within the Schools of Performing Arts, Liberal Arts, and Business throughout students' first two years. They will build relationships with their advisees, leverage innovative strategies and techniques to engage students, connect them to campus resources and facilitate their development of academic and career readiness skills through a campus-wide initiative, Dean Career Advantage. The qualified candidate's duties include helping students navigate the college experience and working to assist students with degree progression through teaching courses, academic advising, academic monitoring, and career exploration.</p> <p>This is a 12-month, full-time, exempt position.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Advise and serve as the point person for a caseload of approximately 130 students providing high touch, individualized support with regard to all aspects of the student's life: academic, personal, social, and career, while helping students build independence in these areas. </li><li>Teach three sections each of Campus Connections and Career Connections (1 credit courses that take place in the first and second semester, respectively) to support first year advisees in the process of navigating the college experience and developing a career mindset. </li><li>Serve as the primary point of contact for communication with individual students' families. </li><li>Guide students to make appropriate course selections while tracking degree progression, assist with course registration, and implement processes and paperwork necessary to ensure students' degree progress. </li><li>Assist in the implementation of programs and services designed to promote academic, personal and social/emotional success, engagement and retention of students. </li><li>Success & Career Advisors supervise up to four Peer Mentors as part of their Campus Connections and Career Connections teaching. </li><li>Oversee a supplemental responsibility within the Robbins Family Center for Advising & Career Planning. </li><li>Other duties as assigned and/or required. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling and guidance, college student personnel, educational administration, student affairs, or related field required. </li><li>Professional experience working in a college setting, preferably with advising and/or academic support programs. </li><li>Teaching experience preferred; comfort in the classroom and providing group instruction required. </li><li>Demonstrated passion for working with a diverse population of undergraduate students, particularly in the early stages of navigating their college career. </li><li>Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders (students, families, colleagues, administrators), both verbally and in writing. </li><li>Must possess diplomacy, confidentiality, and strong relationship-building skills. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
