<p>Welcome to the SLCC Community!!</p> <p>The adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation. You will teach college-level courses in the Humanities, Philosophy, and/or World Religions, in accordance with qualifications, for the Humanities & Languages Division of Salt Lake Community College.</p> <p>Samples of courses currently taught include Introduction to Humanities, Introduction to Philosophy, Social Ethics, Reasoning and Rational Decision-Making, and World Religions.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties</p> <p>Responsibilities & Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Becomes familiar with and follows the current course curriculum outlines, and engages in accepted best pedagogical practices to maximize student learning. </li><li>Collaborates with the course lead/mentor and other instructors to ensure consistency in course syllabi, pedagogy, assignments, ePortfolio work, testing, grading, and so forth. </li><li>Supports the College's mission, vision, and values by incorporating appropriate cultural material representing a broad variety of ethnicities, national origins, socioeconomic groups and other identities, in additional to using inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom. </li><li>Maintains accurate and complete student attendance records, grades, and other classroom documentation as applicable. Grades must be maintained on the College's learning management system. </li><li>Meets with course mentor and/or the hiring supervisor as needed. </li><li>Responds to department inquiries and emails promptly, usually with 2 business days. </li></ul> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued</p> <p>Responsibilities & Duties Cont.:</p> <ul> <li>Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization. </li><li>Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. </li><li>Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments. </li><li>Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards. </li><li>Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid and departmental purposes) and grades. </li><li>Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. </li><li>Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines. </li><li>Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. </li><li>Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy. </li><li>Maintains professional and collegial behavior. </li><li>Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 2 business days). </li><li>Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure. </li><li>Completes all required employee trainings in a timely fashion. </li><li>Knows and adheres to FERPA guidelines. </li><li>Provides ADA accommodations as requested. </li><li>Other job related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences.</p> <p>All SLCC employees must maintain permanent residence/address within the State of Utah to maintain employment. A permanent Utah address must be recorded to Human Resources within 30-days of your employment start date.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>M.A. in Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, American Studies, Art History, European or World History, Literature, Philosophy, or Comparative Religion. </li><li>One year of experience teaching Humanities, Philosophy, or World Religion at the college level. </li><li>Knowledge of high impact pedagogical practices, inclusive pedagogical methods, and in teaching critical thinking. </li><li>Native or near-native level of fluency in English. </li><li>Ability to conduct classes in-person, on the SLCC campuses. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in the Humanities, Philosophy, or Religious Studies, or in a related discipline, such as Interdisciplinary Studies, American Studies, Art History, World History, Literature, Comparative Religion, Gender Studies, or Ethnic Studies. </li><li>Two or more years of experience teaching Humanities, Philosophy, or World Religion at the college level. </li><li>Training in high impact pedagogical practices, inclusive pedagogical methods, and in teaching critical thinking. </li><li>Skilled in the use of Canvas or other learning management systems. </li><li>Knowledge of and experience in online instructional methodologies. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <p>KSA's:</p> <ul> <li>Highly skilled in conducting email correspondence. </li><li>Able to use databases and Microsoft Office programs with ease. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College </li><li>Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities </li></ul> <p>Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Special Instructions</p> <p>This is a pooled position.
