<p>Summary</p> <p>Reports to the Practice Manager. Performs the responsibilities of the Perinatal Sonographer II (BMG). Works in collaboration with the Medical Director and Practice manager to ensure all perinatal sonographers are current in required credentialing and obtaining and maintaining AIUM certification. Be on their team. </li></ul> <p>Performs the Lead Perinatal Sonographer/Educator responsibilities of the department by:</p> <ul> <li>Working in collaboration with the Medical Director and Practice Manager to ensure all Perinatal Sonographers are current in required credentialing. </li><li>Working in collaboration with the Medical Director, MFM Physicians, and sonographers to obtain and maintain AIUM certification. </li><li>Creating educational curriculum for OB Hospitalists, Family Medicine Residents, or others at the direction of the Medical Director. </li><li>Maintaining teaching files of ultrasound images. </li><li>Overseeing educational case reviews with sonographers, MDs, etc. </li><li>Working with AS OB/GYN (ultrasound reporting software package), as well as GE and Philips to maintain and troubleshoot technical issues. </li><li>Maintaining a list of patients with ultrasound abnormalities for weekly case review. </li><li>Maintaining and updating ultrasound protocols in collaboration with Medical Director. </li><li>Working in collaboration with Practice Manager on sonographer schedules, PTO, etc. </li><li>May participate in student and physician education. </li><li></li><li>Orientating new sonographers to the practice. </li><li>Maintaining competencies of all sonographers; including participation of 'grading' of sonographers in collaboration with medical director to ensure sonographers are competent to perform duties as outlined in their job description. </li><li>Participating in interview process of new employees. </li><li>Participating in the annual reviews for sonographers at site. </li><li>Overseeing and coordinating the ultrasound schedules. </li><li>Maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies and ensuring ordering of supplies for Sonography service. </li><li>Maintaining proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognizing equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate corrective action. Coordinates the required maintenance as necessary. </li></ul> <p>Performs ultrasound scans including OB/GYN, abdominal, Doppler and vascular scans using high frequency ultrasound equipment according to prescribed protocols, policies and procedures while ensuring quality patient care by:</p> <ul> <li>Performing the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. </li><li>Performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including: Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects appropriate scan images to be recorded; obtains essential information from patients, medical records, and previous scan for clinical correlation. </li><li>Instructing patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patient transfer to exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve the scan. </li><li>Obtaining diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the transducer; provides documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret. </li><li>Assisting physicians with amniocentesis procedures with and without the use of a needle guide. </li><li>Understanding the correct billing and coding of obstetrical ultrasound. </li></ul> <p>Performs other functions to maintain competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains work area to include medical supplies for procedures. </li><li>Completing other job related duties as assigned. </li><li>Ability to train in areas of competency </li><li>Responds to change in a positive manner </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. </li><li>Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. </li><li>Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. </li><li>Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. </li><li>Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. </li><li>Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. </li><li>Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. </li><li>Complies with established organization and department policies. </li><li>Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:</p> <ul> <li>Leverage innovation everywhere. </li><li>Cultivate human talent. </li><li>Embrace performance improvement. </li><li>Build greatness through accountability. </li><li>Use information to improve and advance. </li><li>Communicate clearly and continuously. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>The knowledge and skills as indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program which meets the requirements by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (A.R.D.M.S.). Active OB/GYN RDMS Certification required. Clear certification required. FMF 1st Trimester screening required. Knowledge and experience in demonstrating the common markers of fetal aneuploidy. Performs Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessment when indicated. Fetal Echocardiography Board certification required. Basic Life Support (BLS). Experience and proficiency in Amniocentesis, Amnio reduction and Amnio Dye Study. Preferred 2 years of experience as Perinatal Sonographer Educator/Trainer. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge & Skills</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of current training and techniques, programs, tools and equipment. </li><li>Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of and competency in performing procedures, assessments, treatments and techniques. </li><li>Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to conduct training needs analysis, design programs, etc. </li><li>Demonstrates ability to teach staff with a variety of educational backgrounds. </li><li>Demonstrates leadership skills necessary to coordinate activities and motivate all levels of staff. </li><li>Demonstrates initiative and high interest in teaching others. </li><li>Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with all levels of staff and to conduct group and individual instruction. </li><li>Demonstrates well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to communicate in an articulate and effective manner in front of groups. </li><li>Relates to and provides effective feedback to the learner in a manner that is patient, constructive and enhances self-esteem. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul>
