<p>The Naturalist Intern will assist in developing and presenting educational programs that promote conservation ethics, environmental education, and appreciation of natural resources within Bays Mountain Park. This position offers hands-on experience in environmental education and natural resource management.</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate conservation and environmental education programs for diverse groups, </li></ul> <p>including youth and adults.</p> <ul> <li>Organize and lead recreational activities in county parks, such as interpretive hikes, and </li></ul> <p> kayaking, and operating the barge.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintain program attendance records and assist in evaluating program effectiveness.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in Trail Maintenance by attending multiple trail workdays.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with staff on multiple conservation/resource management projects including</p> </li></ul> <p>NestWatch and preliminary wetland studies research.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide information to the public regarding park facilities, rules, and regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead volunteers through various on-site projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in the development of educational materials and displays.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct educational programs and interpretive talks for park visitors and organized</p> </li></ul> <p> groups.</p> <ul> <li>Perform light maintenance tasks related to program activities, such as setting up </li></ul> <p>equipment and preparing program areas.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist Ranger staff with animal husbandry.</p> </li><li> <p>Hike trails to report necessary maintenance and to interact with visitors.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be at least a sophomore by credit hours at a regionally accredited college or university pursuing a degree in biological/zoological sciences, park administration, recreation, or similar field. Previous experience not required.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid TN/VA driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work in various weather conditions and traverse rough terrain.</p> </li><li> <p>Physical ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.</p> </li><li> <p>Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Demonstrated knowledge and teaching ability in natural resources and environmental subjects.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with youth and implementing educational programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong public speaking skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in planning and participating in outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking</p> </li></ul> <p>and kayaking.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Basic knowledge of resource management practices and local natural history.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and establish positive working</p> </li></ul> <p>relationships with the public and colleagues.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must be at least a sophomore by credit hours at a regionally accredited college or university pursuing a degree in biological/zoological sciences, park administration, recreation, or similar field. Previous experience not required.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid TN/VA driver's license.</p> </li></ul>
