No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary</p> <p>The selected candidate will work closely with the Director of Student Health Services, one full-time, and two per diem Nurse Practitioners to address the medical needs of SUNY Cortland students. Student Health Services provides primary care to the student population. Experience Cortland dives deep into the region's offerings </li></ul> <p>Major Responsibilities</p> <p>Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis</p> <ul> <li>Physical Examinations: Conduct directed histories and perform physical exams for students seeking acute medical care at the VanHoesen Hall office. </li><li>Diagnostic Testing: Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and radiological studies required to reach an accurate diagnosis. </li><li>Diagnostic Planning: Formulate tentative diagnoses and develop comprehensive treatment plans. </li><li>Prescriptive Authority: Write prescriptions in strict accordance with New York State privileging guidelines for Nurse Practitioners. </li></ul> <p>Patient Management & Coordination</p> <ul> <li>Patient Education: Inform patients of clinical findings and provide instruction on pathophysiology, medication adherence, and self-care measures. </li><li>Consultation: Collaborate with the supervising Nurse Practitioner Director regarding unusual or complex cases where a second opinion is required. </li><li>Referral Services: Direct patients to local specialists, hospital emergency rooms, or primary care physicians when specialized care is necessary. </li></ul> <p>Compliance & Professional Standards</p> <ul> <li>Confidentiality: Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and institutional standards. </li><li>Cultural Competency: Deliver medical care in a culturally sensitive manner to a diverse student population. </li><li>Certification: Ensure all professional credentials and CPR certifications remain current and up-to-date. </li></ul> <p>Functional and Supervisory Relationships</p> <p>Reports to the Director of Student Health Services.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Open Competitive: certification and current registration as a Nurse Practitioner in a specialty practice area by the New York State Education Department. </li><li>Bachelor's in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. </li><li>Must maintain NYS RN license and registration. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>National certification as an Nurse Practitioner such as American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of evidence-based practices for ordering and interpreting lab work (CBC, metabolic panels, etc.) and imaging (X-rays, MRIs). </li><li>Knowledge of common illnesses and injuries prevalent in a collegiate population (e.g., respiratory infections, sports injuries, concussions, rashes, female and male sexual health). </li><li>Skill in reading laboratory results and radiological reports to formulate accurate diagnoses. </li><li>Proficiency in conducting "directed" histories and performing focused physical examinations. </li><li>Ability to differentiate between routine acute care and complex cases that require escalation or a second opinion. </li><li>Ability to provide inclusive, non-judgmental care to a diverse student body with varying backgrounds and identities. </li><li>Ability to coordinate external referrals and follow-up care for students requiring specialized medical attention. </li></ul> <p>About the University</p> <p>A top public university of approximately 6,600 students located in the geographic center of New York State, SUNY Cortland provides accessible, affordable education to students from across the U.S. body.
