<p>The Nursing Informatics Specialist (NIS) supports all patient care services staff in the specialty area of Nursing Informatics. Responsible for assisting with implementation, evaluation and maintenance of assigned nursing informatics applications and projects. Serves as a nursing informatics resource, assisting with ongoing training, utilization of technology in the clinical setting and participates in rounding and providing "at the elbow" support in real time.</p> <p>Ability to:</p> <p>Effectively educate and motivate clinical staff at all levels.</p> <p>Quickly learn and apply computer-based concepts to clinical processes.</p> <p>Manage time and pace of instruction to ensure the effectiveness of training sessions.</p> <p>Ensure the integrity of all Stamford Health information and maintain confidentiality of all hospital, employee, and patient information.</p> <p>Conduct & manage special projects as assigned. This includes work breakdowns, task definition, team participation, coordination, and regular status reporting. Further the Mission and Philosophy and Strategic Plan of Stamford Health by treating all daily contacts with respect, courtesy, and patience.</p> <p>Performs other related duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.</p> <p>Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Demonstrates professional work behavior by following Service Standards and Success factors.</p> <p>Complies with departmental organizational policies and procedures and adheres to external regulatory requirements.</p> <p>Incumbents of this position provide a systematic process for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of the organization's patient care services providing for the delivery of excellent patient and family centered care. Additionally, incumbents of this position facilitate the organization's philosophy, goals, policies, procedures, role expectations and other functions needed to perform in specific work settings. Patient Care Services is supported with on-going professional development, bidirectional communication and guidance to continue to perform and improve the way in which patient and family centered care is delivered.</p> <p>Standard 5C. Consultation:</p> <p>The informatics nurse provides consultation to influence the identified plan, enhance the abilities of others, & effective change. Standard 10. Quality of Practice:</p> <p>The informatics nurse contributes quality and effectiveness of nursing & informatics practice. Standard 11. Communication:</p> <p>The informatics nurse communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of practice. Standard 12. Leadership:</p> <p>The informatics nurse demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Standard 13. Collaboration:</p> <p>The informatics nurse collaborates with the healthcare consumer, family, & others in the conduct of nursing & informatics practice.</p> <p>Standard 15. Resource Utilization:</p> <p>The informatics nurse employs appropriate resources to plan & implement informatics and associated services that are safe, effective, and fiscally responsible.</p> <p>The competencies listed below are to be considered as integral and core components of the Nursing Informatics Specialist role. Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition 2015</p> <p>Consultation:</p> <ul> <li>synthesizes data, information, knowledge, theoretical frameworks , and evidence when providing consultation </li><li>Facilitates the effectiveness of consultation by involving healthcare consumers, team members, and stakeholders in decision-making processes </li><li>communicates consultation recommendations that influence the identified plan, facilitate understanding by involved stakeholders, enhance the work of others and effect change </li></ul> <p>Quality of Practice:</p> <ul> <li>Uses nursing informatics principles to utilize EHR data to analyze outcomes of nursing practice </li><li>Uses results of QI activities to initiate changes in the nursing and informatics practice and in the healthcare delivery system </li><li>Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of organizational systems that support the planning process </li><li>Uses informatics principles to participate in quality improvement Communication: </li><li>Assesses and supports communication preferences of healthcare consumers, families and colleagues </li><li>Conveys information using communication formats that promote accuracy and accessibility </li><li>Communicates strategies to improve and enhance the value of documentation </li><li>Contributes the informatics professional perspective in discussions with the inter-professional team Leadership: </li><li>Promotes the organization's vision, the associated goals and the strategic plan </li><li>Treats colleagues with respect, trust, and dignity </li><li>Demonstrates advanced communication skills and conflict resolution skills </li><li>Mentors colleagues for the advancement of nursing informatics practice, the profession, and quality health care Collaboration: </li><li>Partners with others to effect change and produce positive outcomes through the sharing of data, information, and knowledge of the healthcare consumer and/or situation </li><li>Engages in teamwork and team-building processes </li><li>Participate in the building of consensus or resolving conflict in the context of patient care and the application of technology to support that care Resource Utilization: </li><li>Identifies best practice and evidence for safety and care outcomes when evaluating the allocation of resources </li><li>Advocates for resources, including technology, that enhances nursing practice </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing Current Registered Nurse License in Connecticut BSN Required, MSN preferred. 3-5 years recent clinical experience in an acute care setting. </li><li>Preferred experience with EHR implementation </li><li>Maintains appropriate job-related membership in professional organization Ability to compile objective and measurable data and produce written reports High level of competency with computers and computer software. </li><li>The ability to perform data and statistical analysis using Microsoft excel or equivalent </li><li>The ability to use Microsoft Power Point and Word </li><li>Manages time effectively by meeting deadlines for completion of work projects, being prompt to appointments and commitments, assisting others when time is available </li><li>Preferred professional certification in Nursing Informatics AHA BLS </li><li>20% of worked hours may include off shift rotation </li></ul>
