<p>Classification</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Minimum Pay</p> <p>$58,904.00</p> <p>Compensation will be commensurate with the level of the position, education, and experience.</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY</p> <p>The Educational Interpreter is to provide district-wide interpreting services and other services that meet the needs of students/individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Coordinate interpreting services with outside entities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Interpret/transliterate both expressive and receptively all activities related to courses, educational achievement, and MCC supported events. </li><li>Plan and implement scheduling of interpreting services to meet student needs and the needs of the College. </li><li>Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs on interpreting budget. </li><li>Work directly with faculty, staff, and freelance interpreters providing training and support in all areas relating to services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. </li><li>Plan, implement, and review departmental goals, Attend appropriate workshops, conferences, or seminars for professional development. Maintain licensure. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, including grammar, syntax, idioms, and academic vocabulary. </li><li>Ability to accurately and efficiently interpret spoken English into ASL and vice versa in real time, maintaining tone, register, and intent. </li><li>Understanding of deaf culture. </li><li>Understanding of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct. </li><li>Familiarity with terminology across multiple academic disciplines (i.e STEM, Health Professions, Trades and Technical Sciences, Information Technology, Humanities, Business, Social Sciences). </li><li>Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and institutional accommodations. </li><li>Understanding of higher education environments, including lecture styles, lab sessions, online/hybrid platforms, and campus etiquette. </li><li>Competence with remote interpreting platforms (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams), captioning tools, and digital resource navigation. </li><li>Work effectively with freelance interpreters, faculty, Disability Support Services staff, and students to ensure access. </li><li>Maintain boundaries, confidentiality, and a neutral presence in academic settings. </li><li>Ability to coordinate multiple interpreting schedules for students. </li><li>Ability to problem-solve and be flexible for last-minute requests and schedule changes. </li><li>Ability to collaborate to monitor the department's interpreting budget. </li><li>Knowledge of the Federal Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree from an accredited interpreter training program OR interpreting/transliterating experience across the bilingual continuum working with deaf or hard of hearing adults for a minimum of one year. </li><li>One year experience as an interpreter. </li><li>Licensure from the state of Nebraska. </li><li>Knowledge of the procedures, functions, and limitations of an interpreter's role and responsibilities. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Strong communication skills. </li><li>Ability to plan, organize, and manage time. </li><li>Knowledge of current software applications. </li><li>Preferred experience interpreting in a post-secondary educational setting. </li><li>Preferred experience with educational and other student services procedures and practices in a post-secondary setting. </li></ul> <p>The specific statements shown in each section of this description are not intended to be all inclusive.
