<p>Primary Function:</p> <p>The Financial Counselor advises patients in all matters dealing with payment for hospital services. Serves as a resource for hospital staff and external contacts regarding policies, procedures and forms related to financial requirements for hospital services. Provides assistance with other department activities as needed.</p> <p>Standards:</p> <ul> <li>Courteously meets with patients and families regarding financial obligations </li><li>Assess patients eligibility for CNE Charity Care, payment arraignments, health insurance opportunities, etc. </li><li>Hold State of RI Navigator License, will train </li><li>Assist patients in resolving all open accounts </li><li>Conduct follow up, resolve issues in a timely manner </li><li>Serve as a resource for hospital staff and external contacts regarding policies, procedures and forms related to financial requirements for hospital services </li><li>Verifies third party sponsorship eligibility through online resources </li><li>Documents information accurately in the hospital financial and information systems </li><li>Obtains billing information and complete necessary work to ensure that information will be delivered to the correct biller </li><li>Explain financial requirements and insurance/third party payor hospitalization benefits to the patient or responsible party </li><li>Interpret and provide information regarding patients copayment responsibilities and any applicable coinsurance, deductible and lifetime maximums </li><li>Collection of patient liabilities </li><li>Apply appropriate Community Benefit and Prompt Pay discounts as applicable </li><li>Meet with patients who are Medicare exhausted and evaluate for additional payment source </li><li>Follow up on missing insurance/financial forms </li><li>Effectively verifies accuracy of prepared material prior to submittal or distribution </li><li>Completes required request for reports in a timely manner, prioritizing workload </li></ul> <p>Specifications:</p> <ul> <li>High School required; Bachelor's preferred and a minimum of two years of hospital finance experience required. </li><li>State of RI Navigator Certification preferred.
