<p>Job Title: Engineering Manager</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing a multi-disciplinary engineering team supporting custom equipment design and project execution. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and project oversight to ensure successful delivery of engineered-to-order systems. The ideal candidate has a strong background in custom OEM equipment, understands both mechanical and electrical/control systems, and is capable of driving execution across complex, customer-driven projects.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical and electrical engineers, designers, and project engineers. </li><li>Establish clear roles, expectations, and performance metrics across the engineering team. </li><li>Support hiring, onboarding, and training of engineering staff. </li><li>Conduct performance reviews and drive career development planning. </li><li>Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. </li><li>Provide high-level technical oversight for mechanical and electrical system design. </li><li>Support complex problem-solving and critical design decisions. </li><li>Ensure designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality expectations. </li><li>Guide system architecture for custom equipment, including integration of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems. </li><li>Promote standardization of designs, components, and engineering practices. </li><li>Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and best practices in custom equipment and automation. </li><li>Oversee engineering execution across multiple concurrent custom projects. </li><li>Ensure alignment of engineering deliverables with project scope, schedule, and budget. </li><li>Partner with project management and operations to resolve risks and bottlenecks. </li><li>Support escalation and resolution of technical and project issues. </li><li>Balance resource allocation across projects based on priority and workload. </li><li>Collaborate closely with fabrication, assembly, controls, procurement, and field service teams. </li><li>Support seamless transition from design through build, test, and commissioning. </li><li>Ensure effective communication between engineering and other departments. </li><li>Support customer interactions for complex or high-visibility projects. </li><li>Assist with technical sales efforts including concept development, estimating, and proposal support. </li><li>Participate in design reviews and customer meetings as needed. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of custom equipment design and manufacturing processes. </li><li>Working knowledge of mechanical systems (structures, motion systems, fluid systems) and electrical and controls systems (PLCs, automation, sequencing). </li><li>Experience with CAD platforms (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent). </li><li>System integration and multi-discipline coordination. </li><li>Industrial oven design, thermal systems, or heat-processing equipment (highly preferred). </li><li>Ability to evaluate and guide structural and mechanical calculations, drive and motion system sizing, and thermal and process system considerations. </li><li>Understanding of controls architecture and sequence of operations. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). </li><li>8-15+ years of experience in custom equipment design. </li><li>5+ years of leadership or management experience. </li><li>Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, custom engineering environment. </li><li>Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. </li><li>High level of accountability for team performance and project outcomes. </li><li>Effective communicator across all levels of the organization. </li><li>Ability to bridge gaps between engineering disciplines (mechanical and electrical). </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, involving collaboration with various teams including fabrication, assembly, controls, procurement, and field services. The role demands effective communication and coordination to ensure seamless transitions from design to build, testing, and commissioning stages.
