<p>JOB SUMMARY: The Technician Sterile Processing II performs disinfection and sterilization of supplies, instruments and equipment. Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes equipment, supplies, instruments and endoscopes used in patient care. Provides orientation and training to staff. Advanced knowledge and skills to facilitate daily functions of the area in accordance with policy and procedure. Restocks and maintains inventory control.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs disinfection and sterilization of supplies, instruments, and equipment. </li><li>Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, and distributes equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care. </li><li>Works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion, and a commitment to teamwork. </li><li>Cleans and inspects instruments and inspects for visual damage. </li></ul> <p>JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs disinfection and sterilization of supplies, instruments, and equipment. </li><li>Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, and distributes equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care. </li><li>Works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion, and a commitment to teamwork. </li><li>Cleans and inspects instruments and inspects for visual damage. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Associate can deliver care/service appropriate to patient/customers. </li><li>Performs sterilization. </li><li>Performs an air removal test and jacket pressure check prior to first usage of the sterilizer. </li><li>Clean autoclaves. </li><li>Completes all documentation records. Is competent with steam and gas sterilizers. </li><li>Clean equipment and instruments and inspect for visual damage. </li><li>Performs decontamination. </li><li>Operate washer/ disinfector. </li><li>Assemble packs, procedure trays and carts. </li><li>Follow procedure for content identification of each pack. </li><li>Wrap instrumentation properly. </li><li>Complete documentation of data, load number, sterilizer number and initials. </li><li>Restock crash carts. Performs ordering function. </li><li>Maintain adequate inventory. </li><li>Knows processes for placing internal and external orders. </li><li>Communicate back orders and other important supply issues accordingly. </li><li>Proficient with computer programs. </li><li>Performs distribution function. </li><li>Maintain record of outgoing supplies for charge purposes and inventory control. Meet customer requests in a timely manner. </li><li>Correctly label all supplies. </li></ul> <p>EXPECTED BEHAVIORS</p> <ul> <li>Works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion and a commitment to team work. </li><li>Functions appropriately under stressful or emergency conditions. </li><li>Utilizes effective verbal, nonverbal and written communication. </li><li>Assist with orientation of new associates. </li><li>Contribute to planning, implementing and supporting change for improved patient care and departmental operations. Identify educational opportunities of growth. </li><li>Demonstrate acceptable attendance and punctuality. </li><li>Conduct self in a professional manner at all times. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>High School graduate or GED required. </li><li>CRCST/CSPDT/CFER national certification or Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from NBSTSA required. </li><li>Basic computer skills required </li><li>2 years of knowledge and skills in Central Services preferred. </li><li>Able to serve as a preceptor to Technician Sterile Processing I with completion of preceptor education. </li><li>Knowledge of surgical instruments, basic aseptic techniques, medical terminology and the healthcare environment. </li><li>Surgical related experience involving care and maintenance of equipment. </li><li>Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital. </li></ul>
