<p>BPS Community Mentors develop relationships and provide support to students who have been identified as needing assistance in areas such as academics, family and peer relationships, access to community resources and activities, self-esteem, self-advocacy, self-efficacy, and behavioral concerns.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Capable of working collaboratively with a team to support and problem-solve situations. </li><li>Ability to build positive relationships and demonstrate care with youth of all ages. </li><li>Ability to act as a role model in person and on public social media platforms. </li><li>Access to reliable transportation. </li><li>High School Diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred. </li></ul> <p>Community Mentor's role is to support their mentees by:</p> <ul> <li>Empowering students to resolve current issues and to develop coping strategies for the future. </li><li>Provide a model for a healthy, trusting relationship through clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries. </li><li>Acknowledging students' strengths, talents, and gifts and encouraging them to find ways to use them. </li><li>Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement when appropriate. </li><li>Engage in activities outside of the home to help expose the students to new opportunities and experiences. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Meet and connect consistently with students on caseload in the best setting for the student (i.e., school, after-school, digital communications, phone call, home visits, etc.) </li><li>Increases students' understanding of academics, competencies, requirements/policies, and pathways to completion. </li><li>Provide psychosocial, academic, professional, and life skills support to assigned students. </li><li>Helps students process their learning experiences and connect them to future goals. </li><li>Keep detailed records for each student through the district's student information management system. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of participants (unless requires mandated reporting). </li><li>Clear communication with school-based support teams and administration. </li><li>Connects students to resources in and out of school. </li><li>Works with students to identify their goals and enhance their self-efficacy and abilities to self-advocate, problem-solve, and manage conflict. </li><li>Provides workshops and campus activities based on students' interests and needs. </li><li>Assist students with major transitions (e.g., school-to-school, college, and other major life transitions). </li><li>Advocate for student success and take a proactive role in their success. </li><li>Collaborate with the school administration, teachers, community partners, and families on students' success. </li><li>Recognize students' assets, promote students' accountability, and develop students' problem-solving skills. </li><li>Keep informed of school policies and policy changes, provide feedback and clarity when needed. </li><li>Attend all mandatory trainings and professional development opportunities. </li></ul> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>Work Hours: The employee must be committed to working with students during the most ideal time for the student. It is expected that the employee will utilize out-of-school time for one-on-one meetings with students. Although hours can be flexible (i.e., 8 am- 4 pm, 9 am-5 pm, 10 am-6 pm), it is expected that the employee will work full days. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, and includes some evenings, weekends, and school vacations.</p> <p>Funding Source: Local</p>
