If you have a heart for education, innovative programming, working with high school adolescents, community engagement, and Leading Youth For Tomorrow, this role is for you!</p> <p>About Us: PHMC, a leading nonprofit public health institute, has partnered with several Philadelphia schools, including John Bartram High School, Martin Luther King High School, and the Boys Latin School of Philadelphia (HS), to support our LYFT After-School and Summer Out-of-School Time (OST) Program. LYFT empowers students with S.T.E.A.M. skills through interactive, project-based, and structured activity learning. We're dedicated to fostering a brighter future for high school-aged youth in Philadelphia.</p> <p>Role Overview: The Program Leader is a part-time position that plays a pivotal role in driving excellence within our LYFT programs. They engage up to 15 youth to plan and implement student-driven, project-based activities that incorporate relevant academic content and build 21st Century Skills, such as teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Reporting directly to the Site Coordinator, Program Leaders work approximately 15 hours per week during the school year (Monday through Friday, 3 P.M. to 6 P.M.) and approximately 25 hours per week during the 6-week summer program (Monday through Friday, 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.). This is a great opportunity for recently graduated college students and current college students seeking extra experience in education while maintaining a fun, safe, and enriching after-school environment.</p> <p>This is a part-time after-school AND summer position.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Provide daily supervision and engaging activities for up to 15 youth. </li><li>Engage youth in life skills group discussions and activities. </li><li>Engage youth to design and implement STEAM-focused project-based learning, service-learning, and/or experiential learning projects. </li><li>Lead and guide youth during program activities, including projects, trips, and meals. </li><li>Supervise and mentor youth during recreational, physical, academic, and project-based programs. </li><li>Tutor and assist youth individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by instructors/teachers. </li><li>Communicate with parents and the school community. </li><li>Enforce administration policies and rules governing students. </li><li>Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. </li><li>Complete other duties related to programming, such as reporting and attendance. </li></ul> <p>DESIRED SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of youth development principles </li><li>Ability to engage and relate to 9th and 12th-grade students </li><li>Knowledge of project-based learning </li><li>Ability to create engaging, fun, and impactful programs for youth </li><li>Willingness to adapt to changing work demands </li><li>Ability to relate to diverse program environments and people from various cultural backgrounds </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, team members, and school personnel </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Strong conflict resolution skills </li><li>General knowledge of classroom management techniques </li><li>Strong analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and work independently </li><li>Commitment to meeting deadlines and program goals </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills for building positive relationships </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma/GED required </li><li>Preferred: Some college-level coursework </li><li>Preferred: One year of experience working with children and/or adolescents in a high school setting </li></ul> <p>CONTACT INFORMATION: Email cover letter and resume to projectlyft@phmc.org.</p> <p>PHMC is an Equal Opportunity and E-Verify Employer.</p>
