<p>Description:</p> <ul> <li>This is corrections security and maintenance work, performing work associated in the daily maintenance, prevention and repair of the buildings within the Department of Corrections. An employee in this position, through work performed, supports the daily maintenance and general plant operations of the Lehigh County Department of Corrections. This is technical and complex work in a program of building maintenance, heating, plumbing, and general plant operations at a large County correctional institution exceeding one thousand (1000) beds. </li><li>An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Maintenance supervisors and Institutional Maintenance Manager in the upkeep and preservation of building maintenance, heating and utility plant operations. This position reports to the Maintenance Sergeant and Lieutenant. </li></ul> <p>Typical Examples of Work:</p> <ul> <li>Receives direction on projects that may be occurring in the facility from supervisors; responds to work orders created by staff regarding repairs that need to be made; and maintains support of the daily physical plant operation of the facility. Consistently enforces policy and procedure. Responds to building maintenance emergency situations, takes direction as needed and participates in the implementation of emergency plans. </li><li>Receives and resolves maintenance issues in the facility. </li><li>Directly addresses issues and solves problems before escalation to higher administrative levels. Supports the repair of facility systems with a variety of outside service personnel and service contracts through escort and assistance. </li><li>Ensures maintenance tools and supplies are properly inventoried, logged, stored, controlled and issued. </li><li>Coordinates with other facility departments and offices to solve problems. </li></ul> <p>Responsible for supporting the cleanliness and function of all areas of the institution. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to learn and understand the rules and regulations relating to the operation of a correctional facility. </li><li>Ability to quickly learn the methods and techniques used in the control and custody of inmates, including appropriate use of force and defensive tactics. </li><li>Ability to supervise the activities of inmates in custody. </li></ul> <p>Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly and calmly in emergencies.</p> <p>Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions as well as keep records and write clear and concise reports.</p> <p>Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>Second Shift </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Diversified mechanic with experience in building maintenance, and a working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, welding, painting and HVAC systems. </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>G.E.D. or High School Diploma </li></ul> <p>Bargaining Unit:</p> <ul> <li>Yes </li></ul> <p>A criminal background check is required.</p>
