<p>Our Corporate Controller's team is currently seeking an Investment Accounting Manager in our Worcester, MA location. Position is eligible for Hybrid/Flex work arrangement. This is a full time, exempt role.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Investment Accounting Department supports the Investment Management division to properly account for and report on the investment portfolios of The Hanover Insurance Group.</p> <p>Responsible for day-to-day investment accounting operations and various internal and external U.S. GAAP and/or statutory reporting. Responsible for continuous review & improvement of operations & managing unanticipated situations. Requires significant interaction with senior & middle management throughout the company, including investment professionals, legal, external auditors & regulators.</p> <p>WHAT YOU WILL DO:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for team oversight and review of complete and accurate accounting, schedules & reports required under various reporting standards including U.S. GAAP, statutory accounting principles, the SEC, and/or other regulatory requirements (includes financial statements, exhibits, disclosures, financial projections, and/or management reports) for both internal and external use. </li><li>Required to prepare complex analysis and regulatory reports under strict deadlines. </li><li>Proactive identification, research, and resolution of all accounting & disclosure matters affecting financial accounting and reporting including, but not limited to, new accounting pronouncements and their related formal written memos. </li><li>Continuous review, evaluation, and implementation of team operating procedures and related Sarbanes-Oxley and internal controls to ensure quality in financial information. </li><li>Provides accounting & financial reporting support for rating agency surveys. May provide financial reporting support for capital markets and investor relations activities. </li><li>Oversight and accountability for investment accounting systems. Serves as subject matter expert with technology group or IT vendors to design, develop, maintain or enhance automated business systems. </li><li>Participates in establishing policy & strategic direction for investment accounting financial applications. Involves establishing priorities & communicating with customers, suppliers & support areas, such as IT and other vendors. </li><li>Responsible for the management of employees with a variety of skills and/or knowledge, including supervisors. </li><li>Responsible for team talent management including performance and compensation management. </li><li>Responsible for communicating results/issues to upper-level management. Participates in team strategy development and decision making and is responsible for effective implementation for applicable team. </li><li>May be accountable for financial / budgetary oversight for applicable unit. </li></ul> <p>WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:</p> <ul> <li>2 - 4 years of prior Management or supervisory experience </li><li>6+ years of experience in a related field or area of specialization </li><li>Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. </li><li>MBA or Master of Science in Accounting or Finance preferred. </li><li>CPA preferred. </li><li>Advanced Microsoft Excel and Power BI capabilities preferred. </li><li>Strong knowledge of policies, programs and techniques within unit or specialization </li><li>Conceptual Thinking - Synthesizes facts, trends, inferences, and key issues and/or themes in complex situations. - Recognizes patterns and relationships between entities or situations. </li><li>Finance and Accounting Knowledge - Understands and applies financial and accounting principles to analyze financial results, track budgets, set pricing and rates, and report financials. </li><li>Negotiation - Knowledge of negotiating techniques, subject matter, and strategy to obtain commitment, compromise or settlement in a way that promotes mutual goals or interests. </li><li>Relationship Building - Understands the importance of developing and maintaining cooperative relationships with others at all levels of the organization by making others feel their concerns and contributions are important. Builds positive relationships with others to accomplish organizational goals. </li><li>Talent Management - Proactively fosters building, mobilizing and evaluating the organizations human assets. Establishes performance goals and measures in order to accomplish organizational goals. Authorizes individuals to take initiative and make expedient, practical decisions that impact the performance or success of an event or project. Shares knowledge, skills or expertise with others; coaches others. Encourages and rewards learning, growth in others. Supports continual development of staff through assignments, coaching, and training. </li><li>Physical Demands and Work Environment:- Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment - Ability to work in a fast-paced stressful environment - Ability to work cooperatively - Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (75 - 90%) - Ability to travel as needed </li></ul>
