<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Dean College's School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach in person during the Fall 2025 semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.</p> <p>We are seeking an adjunct lab instructor for BIO 180: Human Biology Laboratory. The BIO 180 Lab meets once a week for two hours. The adjunct pay rate is $2,200 ($1,100 per contact hour). Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The Biology program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi and lab handouts. All faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.</p> <p>Course Description for BIO 180: Human Biology</p> <p>Students will explore the basic science of human biology. Students will have the opportunity to understand how the human body responds to external influences of diet, physical activity, infectious pathogens, alcohol, drugs and stress through the reading and evaluation of basic research studies. Laboratory activities will augment lecture topics and will culminate in the completion of a capstone project involving the design, implementation, and evaluation of a personal fitness program. Students in the Dance, Biology, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Pre-Nursing, and Science majors may take this course as an elective. This course does not substitute for any of the required lab sciences in those majors. Lecture and laboratory meet separately each week. Must be concurrently enrolled in lab. Lab fee: $75. Offered every semester. This course fulfills the Core Lab Science requirement.</p> <p>There is one lab section for a BIO 180 available. The lab meets on Tuesday from 11am-12:50pm.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver and assess course learning objectives and outcomes for in person, weekly lab consistent with the course charter. </li><li>Hold at least one office hour each week. </li><li>Be responsive and supportive of students learning and concerns or questions. </li><li>Use Canvas to post course materials and assignment deadlines, post grades on the gradebook in Canvas and enter attendance on the Canvas attendance log. </li><li>Communicate and collaborate with the lecture instructor regarding course materials. </li><li>Assess student learning in the lab. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in biology or a related field is required; PhD in a related discipline is preferred. </li><li>Experience teaching at the college level in person is required; experience teaching first and second year undergraduates is preferred. </li><li>Strong computer skills are required. </li><li>Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy is required. </li><li>Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools is required. </li><li>Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media is required. </li><li>Expertise in learner-centered teaching is required. </li><li>Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
