<p>Position Description - Behavioral Health Patient Services Representative</p> <p>Reports to</p> <p>Behavioral Health Services Manger</p> <p>Division</p> <p>Behavioral Health</p> <p>Exempt/Non-Exempt Status</p> <p>Non-Exempt</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY: Serves patients by greeting and helping them; scheduling appointments; maintaining records and accounts. Serves as an integral part of the healthcare team assisting in patient care management.</p> <p>PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries </li><li>Verify insurance and ensure mental health coverage. Obtain prior authorization if required by the insurance company. </li><li>Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Call and confirm all Behavioral Health appointments. </li><li>Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays </li><li>Comforts patients by anticipating their anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area </li><li>Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information. Update Behavioral Health paperwork yearly and as needed. </li><li>Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges </li><li>Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs </li><li>Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies </li><li>Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information </li><li>Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes </li><li>Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed </li><li>Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing medical or behavioral health provider(s) </li><li>Distributes lab reports to medical or behavioral health provider(s) for review </li><li>Maintains logs of required data as needed </li><li>Participates in departmental Quality Assurance and other patient related committees as needed </li><li>Acts as the patient's advocate and liaison for preservation of patient's rights </li><li>Participates in off-site screening projects as needed </li><li>Participates in outreach and community screenings as needed </li><li>Participates in case management and patient surveys in maintaining quality assurance </li><li>Records-send request for incoming records and send outgoing records as requested </li><li>Referrals-For Behavioral Health Services, process incoming paperwork, verify insurance and schedule appointments. </li></ul> <p>OFF-SITE WORK:</p> <ul> <li>Off-site work is required occasionally. Examples include off-site training and health fairs. </li><li>This position does have the option to work off-site with the supervisors' approval. </li></ul> <p>SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent required </li><li>Two years' experience working in a related health care field </li><li>Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred </li><li>Behavioral Health experience a plus </li><li>Problem Solving: Frequent problems arise in this position that are outside established policies or bodies of knowledge calling for high-level skills in problem solving. </li><li>Decision Making: Frequent situations arise in this position calling for careful and analytical judgment. </li><li>Supervisory: Extensive responsibility for the direct supervision of management staff and contract employees. Requires the judicious use of delegation. </li><li>Interpersonal: Must interact with employees, Board of Directors, government officials, and the general public. </li><li>Working Conditions: Works in well-lighted, climate-controlled building. May be subjected to appearance in less than desirable environment and travel in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to body fluids. </li></ul> <p>PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:</p> <ul> <li>Must maintain confidentiality and uphold HOPE's values in performing the duties of the Security Guard; also demonstrate the following personal attributes: </li><li>Trustworthiness, </li><li>respectful, </li><li>possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, </li><li>be flexible, and </li><li>demonstrate sound work ethics. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>This position will sit and stand throughout the workday, both inside and outside of the facilities as needs arise. </li><li>The position will need to be responsive to needs in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays. </li></ul> <p>Note: This job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the Behavioral Health Patient Services Representative position.
