<p>Description</p> <p>The Internal Auditor performs independent, objective assurance and consulting activities designed to add value and improve the operations of St. Louis County Government. This role helps the County accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.</p> <p>The starting salary for the Special Investigation Auditor position is $65,000 annually. To provide for the best possible work-life balance, the County offers a generous benefits package that includes affordable health insurance, dental and vision coverage, 4 weeks of Paid Time Off the first year, 11 paid holidays, a deferred retirement plan, paid life insurance as well as short and long-term disability.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Conduct performance, financial, and compliance audits of County departments, programs, and operations. </li><li>Evaluate internal controls, identify risks, and recommend improvements to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with applicable laws and policies. </li><li>Prepare clear, concise, and well-documented audit reports and present findings to County leadership. </li><li>Assist in the development of the annual audit plan based on risk assessments. </li><li>Collaborate with external auditors and provide support during external audits. </li><li>Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and follow up on corrective actions. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of professional ethics. </li><li>Support special projects and investigations as assigned by the County Auditor or County Council. </li><li>Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures. </li><li>Participate in meetings, professional organizations, committees, and related groups. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. </li><li>At least 2 years of professional auditing, accounting, or related experience. </li><li>Knowledge of internal auditing standards, accounting principles, and governmental regulations. </li><li>Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and audit software tools. </li><li>Ability to learn and use audit software and systems used across St. Louis County </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or similar professional certification. </li><li>Experience in government auditing or public sector financial management. </li><li>Familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.</p> <p>The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.</p> <p>The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.</p> <p>All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
