This role drives strategic planning and systemic improvement in instruction, curriculum, assessment, and professional development. The Director ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, oversees the Title III grant and department budget, and supervises staff. A key focus of the role is fostering a district-wide culture of equity, inclusion, and diversity for students, staff, and the community.</p> <p>SALARY RANGE:</p> <p>$125,338.47 - $162,901.23</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in education or applicable field </li><li>At least five years of experience as a classroom teacher in ELL / Bilingual programs strongly preferred </li><li>Spanish speaker strongly preferred </li></ul> <p>CREDENTIALS:</p> <ul> <li>Administrator Licensure issued by the State of Illinois </li><li>ESL and/or Bilingual endorsement or related certification </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to plan, organize, and direct a district-wide ELL/WL education program aimed at preparing every student for success. </li><li>Ability to lead improvement efforts toward identified instructional targets by motivating and mentoring administrators and facilitating systemic change strategies, with an emphasis on progressive educational practices. </li><li>Commitment to equity in educational opportunities for students and leadership opportunities for staff, especially with regard to members of traditionally underserved and underrepresented groups. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents/guardians, the community, institutions of high education, business leaders, and administrative staff. </li><li>Strong knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction, program evaluation, leadership development, school improvement, budget management, and data analysis. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of state / federal regulations and accreditation requirements governing public education programs. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective ELL/WL education principles, practices, and trends. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum best practices in instruction and assessment, school operations, management, and leadership development. </li><li>Demonstrated record of success in leading strategic educational initiatives that resulted in measurable improvements in student achievement. </li><li>In-depth experience in the systemic implementation of progressive instructional practices. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Provide leadership and mentorship for Language Learner (ELL) and World Languages (WL) programs, promoting innovative, equitable, and research-based practices aligned to district goals. </li><li>Align ELL/WL services with college, career, and citizenship readiness, emphasizing bilingualism and biliteracy for all students. </li><li>Define and monitor program structures such as co-teaching, push-in/pull-out models, and instructional supports across ELL/WL settings. </li><li>Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing ELL and WL programs, including Title III requirements. </li><li>Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning team to manage curriculum, instruction, program evaluation, data analysis, compliance, staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation for ELL/WL programs. </li><li>Develop and oversee systems for ELL/WL student identification, intake assessments, placement, and ongoing language proficiency evaluations. </li><li>Lead ELL/WL teams by facilitating team meetings, supporting instructional improvement, and providing ongoing staff development. </li><li>Support school and department leaders in implementing inclusive and effective instructional practices for ELL and WL students. </li><li>Promote culturally responsive curriculum and instruction that reflect district diversity and support equity for all learners. </li><li>Collaborate on and deliver professional development related to ELL, WL, equity, and social justice in alignment with strategic district priorities. </li><li>Establish and monitor performance standards for ELL/WL instruction and student progress using ongoing formative and summative data. </li><li>Oversee departmental budgets and Title III grant implementation, including staffing and resource decisions. </li><li>Maintain accurate student records and ensure timely submission of state and federal reports related to ELL and WL programs. </li><li>Engage with families, community partners, and external organizations to promote equitable access and post-secondary success for ELL/WL students. </li><li>Present program goals and outcomes to a variety of stakeholders, including school administrators, families, community members, and the Board of Education. </li><li>Participate in professional development and leadership activities to stay informed of best practices, emerging trends, and compliance updates in the fields of language acquisition and equity. </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION:</p> <p>Supervises, evaluates and leads certified and non-certified staff assigned to the department.</p> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer Statement</p> <p>Round Lake Area Schools (RLAS #116) is an equal opportunity employer.
