<p>This position is not designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is not subject to random drug and alcohol screening.</p> <p>JOB OBJECTIVE: Are you passionate about protecting animals and upholding the law? Step into a dynamic role where every day brings something new. As an Animal Services Officer, you'll be the face of compassion and accountability-investigating reports of animal law violations, enforcing critical ordinances, and taking action to ensure the safety and well-being of both animals and the community. From issuing citations and warnings to handling real-world cases, this is your chance to make a real impact.</p> <ul> <li>Investigates alleged violations of animal laws and ordinances; interviews suspected violators and witnesses and gathers appropriate physical evidence; obtains and serves seizure warrants. </li><li>Issues citations and warnings to violators; testifies in court. </li><li>Examines incoming animals and monitors impounded animals for symptoms of disease and injury and notifies supervisor of those not in healthy condition; administers medications for treatment of sick animals. </li><li>Feeds and waters animals according to schedule; cleans kennels and cages using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment. </li><li>Captures and restrains animals by using ropes, snares, and tranquilizer dart guns; transports captured animals to the Animal Services Center. </li><li>Collects monies for fees and fines; issues receipts and completes necessary forms. </li><li>Answers questions and provides information to the general public regarding animal laws, ordinances, and procedures. </li><li>Maintains files of each investigation; maintains record cards for each animal impounded; prepares daily reports. </li><li>Tranquilizes and euthanizes animals by injection; maintains accurate euthanasia records. </li><li>Provides assistance to the Veterinarian with the daily clinic routine to include cleaning, vaccinations, and surgery preparation as needed. </li><li>Disposes of animal remains by incineration; cleans incinerator and freezer. </li><li>Processes intake paperwork for public impounds, owner relinquishments and adoptions; collects monies for fees, issues receipts and completes necessary forms; receives and dispatches public complaints. </li><li>Performs surgical animal decapitations and prepares specimens for shipment to the State Health Department. </li><li>Operates a light duty truck to patrol assigned areas in the performance of essential job functions. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.</p> <p>These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school; one (1) year of experience in the care of domestic animals.
