No Pay Information $60,000 Pay Schedule Annually FLSA Designation Exempt Position Summary</p> <p>Advise and represent UNO students in misdemeanor criminal and civil litigation. Responsibilities will include legal research, negotiation, resolving legal issues and court representation. Prepare and deliver educational presentations to UNO students on legal topics of importance to them.</p> <p>Job Duties</p> <p>Responsibility Area: Student Legal Representation Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Provide legal representation to students </li><li>Conduct legal research </li><li>Draft complaints, petitions, answers, motions, memoranda and briefs </li><li>Electronically file court documents </li><li>Use Nebraska Court System's JUSTICE network to review court records for students </li><li>Negotiate on behalf of students by contacting attorneys, prosecutors and others </li><li>Help students execute plans of action by preparing letters or other documents </li><li>Contact landlords, collection agencies, insurance companies or other parties, to help resolve legal issues or cases </li><li>Represent students in court in accordance with SLS guidelines </li><li>Support students as they resolve legal issues without litigation </li><li>Maintain/update statistical information for attorney hours and types of activities; and number and types of cases </li></ul> <p>Percentage Of Time 50 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Student Meetings Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Meet with UNO students to discuss legal problems, issues and questions </li><li>Gather information and facts during interview </li><li>Analyze and research legal issues </li><li>Advise students/clients regarding options and proposed solutions </li><li>Help students develop plans of action </li><li>Respond to student e-mails and inquiries </li></ul> <p>Percentage Of Time 25 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Outreach and Communications Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare and deliver presentations to student groups on legal topics of importance to them </li><li>Develop presentations to educate students regarding their legal rights & responsibilities to help students prevent legal problems </li><li>Review, update, maintain and expand the online legal information and sample documents on the SLS website </li><li>Write and distribute legal information by designing flyers, brochures, posters & presentations </li></ul> <p>Percentage Of Time 15 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Office Operations Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain office operations and procedures to ensure efficient functioning of the office and assist, as needed, in absence of Office Manager </li><li>Answer the telephone </li><li>Schedule appointments </li></ul> <p>Percentage Of Time 10 Essential Function: Yes</p> <p>Required and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education</p> <p>Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required. Educational focus in litigation. Experience in civil and criminal litigation. Experience practicing in Douglas County and District Courts. Demonstrated commitment to public service. Demonstrated proficiency with public speaking, presentations, and training audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at a professional and legal level both verbally and in writing. Experience using research tools such as Casemaker, Westlaw, or Lexis-Nexis. Proficient in Google Apps and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
