<p>This position provides semi-skilled work and is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to stormwater management under the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program. This role involves conducting inspections of stormwater systems, industrial sites, and construction activities to identify and mitigate potential environmental risks. The Technician will perform tasks such as water quality monitoring, pollution prevention inspections, investigating illicit discharges, and ensuring that stormwater runoff meets regulatory standards.</p> <ul> <li>Performs routine field inspections of post-construction stormwater infrastructure including storm drains, catch basins, outfalls, tide gates, and other MS4 components. </li><li>Performs wet and dry weather sampling throughout the city; forwards samples to the testing laboratory. </li><li>Evaluates laboratory tests and uploads results to a computer database. </li><li>Performs inspections to enforce the Stormwater Management ordinance. </li><li>Researches pollutant origins. </li><li>Responds to toxic spill incidents. </li><li>Inspects industrial sites and commercial businesses for environmental compliance and pollution prevention purposes. </li><li>Responds to and investigate citizen complaints regarding illicit discharge to the Stormwater system. </li><li>Participates in the Municipal Stormwater Inspection Program to inspect all city-owned sites. </li><li>Maintains various inventories that enable Stormwater inspections (i.e. outfalls, industrial sites, </li></ul> <p> commercial businesses).</p> <ul> <li>Assists in Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) and Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) efforts by conducting water sampling and assisting in source tracing activities. </li><li>Assists with the preparation of the City's NPDES MS4 Annual Report to the state's Environmental </li></ul> <p> Protection Division.</p> <ul> <li>Represents the Department at public education and outreach activities. </li><li>Responds to emergencies during and after normal work hours. </li><li>Operates computer network and associated peripheral devices to facilitate analytical drafting and mapping assignments. </li><li>Prepares maps and charts using GIS software. </li><li>Performs manual and computer-assisted drafting functions. </li><li>Plots mapping information to maintain mapping layers. </li><li>Serves in Critical Workforce for the Department, requiring service during disasters, weather </li></ul> <p> events such as tropical storms or hurricanes, etc., in a support role at the Critical Workforce </p> <p> Shelter or other assigned locations.</p> <ul> <li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field plus two years of work experience in environmental engineering, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.</p> <p>Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.</p> <p>Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 0800 - 1700</p> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <p>Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.</p> <p>Knowledge of the principles of conducting water sampling.</p> <p>Knowledge of the practices and procedures of electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.</p> <p>Skill in oral and written communication.</p> <p>Skill in public and interpersonal relations.</p> <p>Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.</p> <p>Skill in the operation of computers and other modern office equipment and software</p> <p> </p> <p> Successful performance helps ensure the safe and efficient maintenance of city facilities.</p> <p> </p> <p> PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, and the general </p> <p> public.</p> <p> </p> <p> PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and </p> <p> provide services.</p> <p> </p> <p> PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, walking, bending, </p> <p> crouching, or stooping. The work occasionally lifts light objects, frequently lifts heavy objects, </p> <p> climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes </p> <p> between shades of color.</p> <p> </p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in the office or in the field, where the </p> <p> employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and cold or inclement weather.
