<p>Introduction</p> <p>The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.\n</p> <p>GRADE</p> <p>13\n\n\n\nThis position offers a salary range of $54,886 - $76,981, with potential for advancement up to $84,995, over time, based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, equity, and available budget, and will not exceed $76,981.\n</p> <p>LOCATION OF POSITION</p> <p>Office of the Attorney General\n200 St. Paul Place\nBaltimore, Maryland 21202\n</p> <p>Main Purpose of Job</p> <p>The Office of the Attorney is seeking a Management Associate to provide administrative support to a dedicated team of 13 Assistant Attorney Generals in the Civil Litigation Division and Courts & Judicial Affairs Division. The 13 AAGs include: two Division Chiefs and two Deputy Division Chiefs. The position also works with one Administrative Officer.\nThe Civil Litigation Division defends the State of Maryland, its officers and employees in significant and high-profile civil litigation. The Courts & Judicial Affairs Division represents judges and the State courts, clerks, states attorneys, registers of wills, the Office of Administrative Hearings and Tax Court and all their respective employees in litigation and non-litigation matters. The legal work performed by the Divisions is frequently the subject of public interest and media attention. Strict confidentiality is required.\nTogether with other professional staff, the Management Associate will be integral to the success of both Divisions, performing duties that enable the attorneys to focus on more complex legal tasks and strategy. This position requires a strong working knowledge of legal office and court procedures, word processing, Microsoft Office applications and Maryland electronic court filing systems and ECF (federal).?\n</p> <p>POSITION DUTIES</p> <p>\nThis position will:?\n\n\n•\tAssist with civil litigation matters;?\n•\tKeep accurate and up-to-date litigation and subject files following the guidelines provided in the OAG File Protocol; performs regular maintenance of files assuring appropriate location, labeling, and organization.\n•\tOpen, process and distribute mail and service items to other divisions and units within the OAG\n•\tPrepare and revise pleadings, motions, memoranda of law, and appellate briefs; keep current litigation files;?\n•\tOrganize exhibits and other documents in preparation for trial, hearings, meetings or other purposes and perform other clerical tasks.? ?\n•\tTracks complaints served on the State, ensuring proper and timely delivery to appropriate agency or Divisions.\n\n\n\nThe Management Associate ensures that the legal team operates smoothly and efficiently. The ability to follow instructions, juggle multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, work cooperatively with others and adhere to strict deadlines is essential. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.\n\n\nThe collaborative environment of the Divisions encourages continuous learning and offers support from experienced legal professionals, making this a rewarding and challenging role.\n\n\n\n\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.? ??\n??\nExperience: Five years of performing secretarial or clerical work in a legal environment, including word processing, document preparation, filing and other administrative tasks.?\n\n\nIdeal candidates will be highly organized, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, and demonstrate initiative in identifying and solving problems as they arise. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This position also requires sound independent judgment and the ability to perform duties with limited supervision.?\n\n\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>The ideal candidate will have:\n\n\n\n•\tExperience with the Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) and ECF (federal) filing system;.?\n•\tExperience in compiling appellate briefs?\n•\tIndependently proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Teams, and related \tMS365 applications/functions.?\n\n\n\n</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.\n</p> <p>SELECTION PROCESS</p> <p>Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be included in further evaluation.
