<p>POSITION: Assistant Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Academic and Student Success & Director of Bar Preparation</p> <p>STATUS: Full-time, Exempt</p> <p>RANGE: 110,000-120,000</p> <p>SUMMARY: Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for an Assistant Director of Academic Success & Bar Preparation to join its Academic and Student Success program. The Law School's size, vibrant employee and student population, and commitment to training the next generation of lawyers and promoting social justice, will offer a candidate the opportunity to develop and diversify practical skills and participate firsthand in operating a successful educational institution.</p> <p>Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Success and the Director of Bar Preparation, the Assistant Director of Academic Success & Bar Preparation is a key member of the Academic and Student Success team and will work collaboratively with other members of the department to foster and promote high student achievement throughout their time in law school and as they transition to their professional careers. This includes developing communication strategies that foster an engaged and informed student body.</p> <p>The Assistant Director will support academic success programs available to all students; teach academic success courses for students in need of support and intervention and preparing for the bar exam and provide other targeted support to students most in need of help and participate in other student retention activities as needed.</p> <p>The Assistant Director will work to prepare upper class Brooklyn Law School students and recent alumni for the UBE and NextGen bar examinations and related admission requirements and will be responsible for maintaining familiarity with admission requirements in New York and other jurisdictions.</p> <p>The Assistant Director must stay abreast of developments in national and local bar-related testing and develop and maintain substantial knowledge about academic support and bar preparation programs. The Assistant Director will also work under the supervision of the Director of Bar Preparation to help advise the faculty and administration on bar-related matters, maintain data, and prepare periodic reports for administrators and the Dean as needed.</p> <p>Most notably, the Assistant Director of Bar Preparation must possess a keen understanding of the social, psychological, and financial challenges that confront college-age and professional students, and work with other members of the Academic and Student Success team to devise thoughtful strategies for addressing them. This includes providing support and advice to those seeking disability-related accommodations in the classroom and on the bar exam (and related standardized exams such as the MPRE). Moreover, the Assistant Director must demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for working with and building meaningful learning relationships with both the student body and faculty.</p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Teach academic success courses for students in need of support and intervention and provide other targeted support to students most in need of help. </li><li>Teach bar-preparation courses and programs, as well as administer mock tests, and conduct workshops both during the academic year and in the summer. </li><li>Work with students within the law school community to provide counseling and support, both individually and through expansion of the law school's existing academic success program, to ensure students' wellbeing, successful completion of law school, and passage of the bar. </li><li>Prepare reports on student outcomes and program accomplishments. </li><li>Contribute to the development and management of a peer support program. </li><li>Assist in evaluating and improving the law school's bar-related programming. </li><li>Counsel graduating students and post-graduate students while studying for the bar exam. </li><li>Additional related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>The ideal candidates will have specific experience in instruction related to academic success and/or bar preparation. </li><li>Candidates must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school; be admitted upon examination to the bar of any state; and experience in law teaching and/or bar preparation, preferably in an in-school bar-preparation program, an academic-success program, or a commercial bar program involving significant interaction with students. </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with assessment and data collection. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorates under deadlines. </li><li>Ability and interest in conducting research to better understand trends in student success in law school and on the bar exam. </li></ul> <p>Remote capabilities</p> <ul> <li>This position requires duties to be performed primarily on-site, but there is some flexibility for limited remote work.
