All of our system institutions place strong emphasis on service - helping to build healthier, more educated communities in South Carolina and beyond.</p> <p>Advertised Job Summary</p> <p>The Doctoral Intern is responsible for providing psychological and outreach services through Counseling & Psychiatry to the University of South Carolina students under the supervision of Licensed Psychologists. Doctoral Interns receive training and supervision to enhance skills and insure competent service delivery. The Doctoral Intern will participate in the following job duties and responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Function as a trainee-member of the clinical staff of Student Health Services Counseling & Psychiatry </li><li>Provide a broad range of counseling and psychological services to students, including, but not limited to, intake evaluation and assessment, treatment planning, and treatment provision within the modalities of individual, couples and group psychotherapy </li><li>Provide crisis intervention and management </li><li>Provide psychological consultation to families, faculty and staff, and other Student Health Services staff </li><li>Support the university community through outreach programming and intervention and participate in a minimum of one Counseling outreach initiative each academic semester. </li><li>Participate in medical home model by collaborating with interdisciplinary partners within Student Health Services (General Medicine, Psychiatry, Nutrition, Student Wellness, etc.) </li><li>Provide training and clinical supervision to trainees as assigned </li><li>Administer, interpret, and write fully integrated psychological assessment reports. </li><li>Participate in weekly clinical team and staff meeting with other interns, faculty & staff regarding student mental health needs and current mental health issues. </li><li>Provide walk-in coverage during regular business hours for students in acute emotional distress. </li><li>Practice in accordance with the ethics promulgated by the American Psychological Association, state law and licensing regulations, AAAHC standards, and all other departmental policies and procedures </li><li>Provide other Clinical and Community Based Services as assigned by supervisor, Training Director, or Director of Counseling and Psychiatry </li></ul> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Skill with group dynamics. </li><li>Skill to establish professional work relationships with all unit and campus personnel, clients, members of the public and off campus agencies. </li><li>Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation. </li><li>Skills to assess pathology of severe emotional problems, make prognostic indications for short-term therapeutic work with students and to carry out such services. </li><li>Strong clinical and crisis management skills. </li><li>Knowledge of giving group presentations, lectures and workshops aimed at bringing a psychological perspective to bear on University life. </li><li>Self-motivated, reliable, strong team player ability to demonstrate initiative and leadership. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Have exceptional professional clinical competency </li><li>Demonstrated ability to consult with various Campus partners and the university community, and respond effectively to crisis events on the university campus </li><li>Demonstrated abilities to engage in critical thinking, to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information, to function as a self-starter, to communicate effectively in written and oral form, to be highly organized. </li><li>Knowledge in identifying patient diagnosis of mental disorders. </li><li>Knowledge of understanding influence of multicultural dynamics on personal well-being </li><li>Knowledge of developmental tasks and problems typically encountered by college students. </li><li>Knowledge to identify and articulate a treatment plan that will lead to problem resolution, stress reduction or alleviation of the diagnosed disorder. </li><li>Knowledge of group counseling theory and ability to teach and consult about group process. </li><li>Knowledge of appropriate ethical and legal standards and regulations. </li><li>Knowledge of the evidenced based practice of psychology. </li></ul> <p>Job Close Date</p> <p>04/17/2026</p> <p>Special Instructions to Applicant</p> <p>Please fill out entire application as needed and include designation of each position on resume as part time, full time, and number hours worked.</p> <p>Positions are advertised for a minimum of five (5) business days on our job website.
