<p>Work Location: 4524 66th Street West, Bradenton, Florida 34205</p> <p>Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm (On-call/Standby Required)</p> <p>Expected Starting Hourly Range: $20.68 - $29.59</p> <p>This is a physically demanding position involving climbing into excavation pits up to 18 feet deep, digging, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in wet or hot conditions. Duties include maintaining and repairing sewer lines and cleanouts as part of a team or independently.</p> <p>This classification performs a variety of entry-level, semi-skilled, or skilled maintenance, construction, and/or mechanical tasks involved in the continuous operation of Manatee County's Wastewater Systems.</p> <p>Note: Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications (DOQ).</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.</p> <p>Specific duties and levels of responsibility will be determined by the position assigned. Duties range from performing trainee-level through skilled and lead duties related to the repair and maintenance activities in the Wastewater Sewer Collections Section.</p> <p>Performs and/or assists with skilled and semi-skilled tasks in maintaining, repairing, and operating equipment and facilities associated with the County's Wastewater underground sewage gravity lines, manholes, lift stations, and force mains; performs construction layouts and establishes grades for all types of utility installations.</p> <p>Performs and/or assists with operating and maintaining appropriate service equipment including Utility service trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, equipment trailers, loaders, sewer cleaning equipment, TV inspection, flushing, and sealing equipment; metal cutting and welding equipment; pipe cutters; dewatering systems; pumps; locating devices and a wide variety of powered and unpowered hand tools.</p> <p>Levels II and III:</p> <p>Trains new technicians in the proper use of all required equipment and serves in a "lead" capacity when required.</p> <p>Performs and/or assists in supervising installations, rebuilds, and repairs of wastewater pipelines and manholes; isolates wastewater lines for repairs, inspection, or construction; forms and pours concrete; rebuilds and restores all types of roadways, curbs, and sidewalks; adjusts manhole and valve box rims and covers to grade; performs building and grounds maintenance as needed.</p> <p>Reads, interprets and follows pertinent blueprints, utility maps, as-builts, and record drawings.</p> <p>Performs and/or assists in organizing and preparing parts, equipment, and tools for the day's work; maintains daily work records and completes reports on work activities; ensures job site safety through traffic control and equipment location; is "competent person" on job site for purposes of confined space and excavation safety rule compliance in absence of maintenance supervisor; fills out work orders; responds to after-hours emergency repair calls.</p> <p>Communicates clearly, effectively and tactfully, orally and in writing, including understanding and following oral and written instructions and other materials (i.e., manuals, schematics, maps, etc.)</p> <p>Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required.</p> <p>Education Requirement:</p> <p>Tech I A - III: High school graduate/equivalent. Participation in a rotating Stand-By/On-Call schedule is required.</p> <p>Experience Requirement:</p> <p>Tech IA: No experience needed.</p> <p>Tech IB: Minimum of one (1) year (2080 hours) experience in repair and maintenance or installation of sewage system pumps and equipment in a utility or closely related system desired.</p> <p>Tech II: Minimum of three (3) years (6,240 hours) of experience in repair and maintenance or installation of sewage system pumps and equipment in a utility or closely related system.</p> <p>Tech III: Minimum of five (5) years (10,400 hours) of experience in repair and maintenance or installation of sewage system pumps and equipment in a utility or closely related system.</p> <p>Tech IB: Class "C" Wastewater Technician Certification. Completion of two (2) Training Classes from the Career Ladder Training Class Menu.</p> <p>Tech II: Class "B" Wastewater Technician Certification, Completion of five (5) Training Classes from the Career Ladder Training Class Menu.</p> <p>Tech III: Class "A" Wastewater Technician Certification. Completion of nine (9) Training Classes from the Career Ladder Training Class Menu.</p> <p>Driver's License Requirement:</p> <p>Tech IA: Must possess and maintain valid Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B OR obtain CDL permit prior to employment and obtain the CDL within one hundred twenty (120) days of hire.</p> <p>Tech IB - III: Valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <p>Tech II and III:</p> <p>Ability to effectively oversee and train others.</p> <p>Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, wastewater pumping equipment, wastewater collection principles and practices of maintenance, repair or construction of same.</p> <p>Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, occupational safety and health precautions associated with confined space operations; underground trenches and excavations; heavy equipment operation; traffic control; hazardous chemical and fluids handling.</p> <p>Ability to distinguish colors and sounds.</p> <p>Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools.</p> <p>Ability to work in small, confined structures underground and in the presence of raw sanitary sewage.</p> <p>Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.</p> <p>Skill in the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment assigned.</p> <p>Additional incentive pay for working in the Wastewater Collections section:</p> <p>Tech I A: $0.50/hour</p> <p>Tech I B - Tech II: $1.00/hour</p> <p>Tech III: $1.50/hour</p>
