<p> </p> <p>Fire Dispatcher I</p> <p>$28.08-$37.63 Hourly ($58,406.40 - $78,270.40 Annually)</p> <p> </p> <p>Fire Dispatcher II</p> <p>$31.39-$42.06 Hourly ($65,291.20- $87,484.80 Annually)</p> <p> </p> <p> The City of Anaheim seeks qualified Fire Dispatcher I or II candidates to experience the challenging and rewarding work of a joint powers authority fire dispatch center. The dispatch center, Metro Cities Fire Authority serves seven agencies in Orange County. Incumbents are responsible for performing a wide variety of routine to skilled dispatch activities. Fire Dispatchers will utilize a Computer Aided Dispatch system to receive, screen and respond to incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for fire medical assistance; dispatch appropriate units and maintain necessary communication with units during their response to calls; and perform a variety of clerical, record keeping and general support duties related to communications activities.</p> <p> </p> <p> Candidates must possess an equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and be able to demonstrate the ability to type at a net corrected speed of 35 words per minute (WPM). In addition to demonstrating a net corrected speed of 35 words per minute (WPM), Fire Dispatcher II candidates must possess responsible experience in public safety dispatching using computer-aided dispatch equipment. Both classifications must be able to work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime when needed. 5% differential to base pay for night shifts</p> <p> </p> <p> An ideal candidate will have: </p> <ul> <li>California P.O.S.T.-certified Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course Certificate. </li><li>Current Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification from the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. </li><li>Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED Certificate. </li><li>Have the flexibility to respond to unexpected/emergency shifts within 60 minutes or a reasonable amount of time. </li><li>Knowledge or entry level experience operating a computer terminal and office equipment. </li><li>The ability to exercise good, independent judgment and make sound decisions in emergency situations. </li><li>The ability to effectively communicate with and elicit information from distressed and irate callers and communicate emergency medical instructions. </li><li>The ability to multitask. </li></ul> <p> The City of Anaheim reserves the option to hire at either the Fire Dispatcher I or Il level based on candidate's qualification and knowledge/skills/abilities demonstrated during the selection process. The resulting eligible list may be used to fill current and future Part Time Fire Dispatcher I or II vacancies. The Part Time Fire Dispatcher I or II position is designated to average 30 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed. The following information must be on the certificate:</p> <p> 1: Your name</p> <p> 2: The name of the issuing agency, the proctor's name, and contact details for verification</p> <p> 3: The date of the test taken (must be within 1 year)</p> <p> 4: The length of the test (must be at least a 5 minute test)</p> <p> 5: The result must indicate net corrected typing speed of 35 WPM or higher.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Written Exam - tentatively scheduled for the beginning of October 2025 The City of Anaheim utilizes the POST Entry Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery. Because the test measures general abilities, there is no study guide or reading list for the test. It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the test formats shown in the Examinee Guide.</p> <p> </p> <p>Written Exam Waiver Request:</p> <p>Applicants who have taken the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery within 365 days of application and achieved a T-score of 48 or higher may request a waiver from the written exam. Applicants requesting to waive the written exam are required to submit proof of their qualifying T-score on agency letterhead from the agency that administered the exam. Applicants who possess a qualifying T-score must attach the required documentation to their application. This includes exams taken with the City of Anaheim.</p> <p> </p> <p>Applicants may not take the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery within 30 calendar days of taking the exam with another department/agency. </p> <p> </p> <p> Further selection steps include a medical examination, which includes drug/alcohol screening, psychological evaluation, and background investigation. The interview with the background investigator and completion of the background investigation will include, but is not limited to, verification and evaluation of any present and/or past use of drugs, driving and employment history.</p> <p> </p> <p>Please review the following common disqualifiers. If any items listed pertain to you, you will be automatically disqualified in the background investigation.
