<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Student Support Services/Social Worker</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>7/31/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Cornwall Consolidated School</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Position: School Social Worker (Grades K-8)</p> <p>Location: Cornwall Consolidated School, West Cornwall, CT</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time (School Year - 187 days)</p> <p>Reports To: Principal</p> <p>Start Date: August 19, 2025</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: Cornwall Faculty Association</p> <p>Overview:</p> <p>Cornwall Consolidated School is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative School Social Worker to support the social-emotional and behavioral well-being of students in grades K-8. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional with strong communication skills, a deep understanding of child development and trauma-informed practices, and the ability to work effectively with families, staff, and community partners.</p> <p>The School Social Worker will serve as an integral member of both the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Team and the School Leadership Team, playing a key role in designing and implementing student-centered interventions, analyzing data, and supporting schoolwide systems of support.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Student Support:</p> <ul> <li>Provide individual and group counseling for students to promote social-emotional growth, resilience, and school engagement. </li><li>Serve as a consistent, accessible resource for students needing academic, emotional, or behavioral support. </li><li>Support implementation of the Character Strong SEL curriculum, reinforcing core values and social-emotional competencies across grade levels. </li><li>Maintain diligent documentation and timely log entries in alignment with school protocols and confidentiality guidelines. </li><li>Case Management & Collaboration </li><li>Manage and monitor Section 504 Plans, including development, coordination of services, and regular reviews. </li><li>Work closely with teachers, staff, and families to implement behavioral and academic support plans tailored to individual student needs. </li><li>Collaborate with the Principal and Student Support Team on investigations, challenging behavior concerns, referral forms, and intervention planning. </li><li>Actively participate in the MTSS Team, contributing to data-based decision-making and tiered support strategies for students across academic, behavior, and attendance domains. </li></ul> <p>Family & Community Engagement:</p> <ul> <li>Act as a liaison to families, fostering strong, supportive relationships and maintaining consistent, professional communication both verbally and in writing. </li><li>Partner with families to navigate school resources, mental health referrals, and community services. </li><li>Serve as the school's liaison to outside agencies, coordinating support and referrals to ensure wraparound services for students and families. </li><li>Leadership & Committee Involvement </li><li>Serve as a contributing member of the School Leadership Team, collaborating on school improvement planning, student support initiatives, and staff development. </li><li>Co-lead the Attendance Committee, analyzing data and working collaboratively to improve student attendance through outreach and intervention. </li><li>Participate actively in the School Climate and Safety Committee, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning environment. </li><li>Support the Principal in advancing Restorative Practices as a schoolwide approach to conflict resolution and community building. </li><li>Systems Knowledge & Documentation </li><li>Utilize PowerSchool and other data systems to track attendance, behavioral interventions, counseling sessions, and student progress. </li><li>Maintain accurate, confidential records and documentation related to counseling, referrals, and parent communications. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>A master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program is required. </li><li>Valid Connecticut certification as a School Social Worker (071 endorsement). </li><li>Experience working in a K-8 school setting preferred. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. </li><li>Knowledge of Restorative Practices, trauma-informed care, MTSS frameworks, and child development. </li><li>Experience with 504 planning and family-school partnerships. </li><li>Comfort and professionalism when engaging with families and outside agencies. </li><li>Familiarity with PowerSchool and electronic documentation systems preferred. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Physical Stamina: Ability to navigate the school building, including traveling between classrooms and offices. Occasionally need to kneel, crouch, or sit on the floor to engage with students. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while conducting student sessions, meetings, or documentation tasks.</p> </li><li> <p>Clear Communication: Need to effectively communicate with students, staff, and parents, both verbally and in writing.</p> </li><li> <p>Classroom Management: Ability to manage the classroom environment, maintain discipline, and ensure the safety and well-being of students.</p> </li><li> <p>Mental and Emotional Stability: Ability to remain calm under pressure and be capable of handling the challenges of a dynamic school environment.</p> </li></ul> <p>Join Our Team:</p> <p>Cornwall Consolidated School offers a warm, inclusive environment where staff collaborate to support the academic, social, and emotional development of every student.
