<p>Salary Starting at $36,000.00</p> <p>ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT - DELINQUENT DEBT COLLECTOR</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Special Requirements</p> <p>An acceptable general background check is required for this position. Requires a high school education and 3 years of experience in accounting in an office environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Special Instructions for Applicants</p> <p>Applicants for this position are required to complete all fields on the application, to include salary expectations and availability. In addition, applicants must provide their complete work experience to include creating an entry for any periods of unemployment, supervisor's information and rate of pay.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Accounting Assistant performs the most difficult work of this classification involving collection of current and delinquent real estate and personal property taxes using a variety of records, programs, and financial transactions. Performs audits on related records and accounts. Provides customer service related to submitting payments and making payment arrangements with taxpayer on delinquent accounts. Handles Department of Motor Vehicles Stops and License Plate Seizures for delinquent personal property taxes.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Answers phone calls from attorneys and the general public on subjects such as current and delinquent taxes, stormwater management fees, liens, vehicle license fees, Department of Motor Vehicle Stops, License Plate Seizures, etc.</p> <p>Makes arrangements for payments with taxpayers.</p> <p>Responsible for locating delinquent taxpayers by researching information from the Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Taxation, the Virginia Employment Commission among other resources.</p> <p>Processes worksheets for warrants and other legal actions. Takes legal actions such as obtaining judgments and issuing and processing liens and warrants.</p> <p>Processing delinquent real estate and personal property tax bills, researches real estate taxes and personal property taxes, retrieves and enters information on the computer, reviews exonerations and corrected bills received from the Commissioner of the Revenue's Office daily.</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary light work. Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 lbs). Task may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station.</p> <p>Sensory Requirements</p> <p>Some task requires the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some task requires the ability to communicate orally.</p> <p>Environmental Exposure</p> <p>Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.</p>
