<p>Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking an experienced Middle School Computer Science Teacher to support school efforts by supporting and executing a shared vision and mission for enhanced student learning to achieve dramatic gains in student achievement. This position will report to the Principal and will support the vision for school culture and academics, support a rigorous plan for students and support the schools to ensure that students graduate career and college ready.</p> <p>Summary of Position:</p> <p>Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and deliver engaging computer science lessons aligned with school and/or state standards </li><li>Teach topics such as basic programming (e.g., Scratch, Python), algorithms, digital citizenship, and technology applications </li><li>Develop hands-on projects that encourage creativity and real-world problem-solving </li><li>Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and assessments </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and skill levels </li><li>Integrate technology effectively into classroom instruction </li><li>Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment </li><li>Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning </li><li>Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administration about progress and expectations </li><li>Stay current with emerging technologies and teaching methods </li><li>Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. </li><li>Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. </li><li>Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. </li></ul> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of computer science </li><li>Ability to instruct and manage student behavior. </li><li>Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred) </li><li>Valid teaching certification/licensure (as required by state or district) </li><li>Experience teaching middle school students (preferred) </li><li>Knowledge of programming languages suitable for beginners (e.g., Scratch, Python, JavaScript) </li><li>Strong classroom management and communication skills </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with robotics, game design, or web development </li><li>Familiarity with STEM/STEAM curricula </li><li>Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas) </li></ul> <p>Librarian Working Conditions:</p> <p>Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors</p> <ul> <li>Maintain emotional control under stress. </li><li>Climbing, stretching, frequent light lifting of books, boxes. </li></ul> <p>Disclaimer: The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
