<p>Application Deadline: Open Until Filled</p> <p>Annual Salary:</p> <p>Dependent on experience and qualifications.</p> <ul> <li>Building Inspector I: $55,614.83 - $73,382.61 </li><li>Building Inspector II: $61,317.98 - $80,907.84 </li><li>Building Inspector III: $67,603.02 - $89,200.75 </li></ul> <p>The City of Laramie is accepting applications for Building Inspector I, II, or III. This position conducts field inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. The role also includes reviewing plans, issuing permits, and providing technical guidance to contractors, property owners, and the public to promote safe and lawful development within the community.</p> <p>Ideal candidates are motivated individuals eager to make a positive impact on their community.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Inspect buildings at various stages of construction, including new builds, alterations, repairs, and remodeling, to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Check plans for code compliance, special conditions, or requirements. </li><li>Inspect existing buildings for changes in use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable building codes and zoning ordinances. </li><li>Perform plan review and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications for accuracy and compliance before permit issuance. </li><li>Identify code, permit, and licensing violations; obtain and prepare evidence; issue notices to comply with violations; follow up on correction notices to ensure required corrections have been completed. </li><li>Work with the Permit Tech to approve the issuance of building and occupancy permits; calculate permit fees; and issue permits. </li><li>Confer with architects, contractors, builders, and the public in the field and in the office; explain and interpret requirements and restrictions. </li><li>Consult with appropriate regulatory officials and supervisors during difficult inspections or when interpretations are required. </li><li>Maintain files and reports on inspection activities and findings. </li><li>Attend and participate in professional group meetings and training; stay current with new trends, developments, and regulations in the fields of plan examining, building inspection, and construction. </li><li>Experience with or ability to learn the Tyler Permitting Software for management and review of all plans and permits. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Building Official. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Requirements:</p> <p>A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying.</p> <ul> <li>Equivalent high school/GED. </li><li>Experience as a skilled craftsperson or inspector in one or more of the building trades, including structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, and fire prevention. </li><li>One full year of academic training at a recognized Building Inspection Training trade school specializing in instruction on the International Codes. A special trade school certificate or special training in Building, Public Works, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, or fire prevention inspection is an acceptable equivalent to skilled craft experience. </li><li>Must have a valid driver's license or be able to obtain one. </li><li>Ability to work in a standard office environment; exposure to the outdoors and ability to travel to different sites and locations. </li><li>ICC (International Code Council) Residential Building Inspector certification is required or must be obtained within [6-12] months of hire. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of building construction methods, materials, and codes. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications. </li><li>Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills. </li><li>Proficiency in inspection management software and standard office applications. </li><li>Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professionalism under pressure. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Work is performed in both an office environment and at construction sites. </li><li>Exposure to noise, dust, varying weather conditions, and potential hazards at construction sites. </li><li>Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and lift up to (25-50) pounds. </li></ul> <p>Why Join Our Team?</p> <p>The City of Laramie provides a comprehensive benefits package to promote employee well-being and work-life balance.
