<p>Hiring Department</p> <p>MU Housing, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, provides a world-class housing experience by engaging students within an innovative and educational environment that supports best on-campus housing practices and promotes student success.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>This position is designed to be student centered. The Residential Education Assistant (REA) will be part of a dynamic team of Residential Academic Program staff who will work closely with the Residence Hall Coordinators (RHC) to enhance student learning and development of Resident Advisors (RAs). The REA will also help promote student success and community engagement within University-owned and -operated residential facilities.</p> <p>The REA will contribute to the departmental mission by assisting RAs in creating and implementing supportive communities that foster and enhance students' learning, development, and academic success. The REA will assist the RHC with coordinating the day-to-day operations of one University-owned and/or -operated facility that houses between 150 and 500 students.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>The REA will perform some or all of the duties listed below as assigned at the direction of RHC. Specific duties assigned may vary based on placement and needs of the residence hall.</p> <p>As staff, you will develop programs, services, and co-curricular experiences for our residential community that embraces a culture of care, enhances student success, engages student involvement, and provides a safe learning environment for students to develop a sense of belonging at Mizzou.</p> <p>Resident Advisor Staff Support</p> <ul> <li>Provide ongoing personal and professional development for RAs on a bi-weekly basis through one-on-one conversations. </li><li>Work with professional staff to ensure RAs are meeting staff expectations and encourage RAs to foster connections with all their residents. </li><li>In collaboration with RHCs, provide ongoing leadership training and support to RAs during weekly staff meetings. </li><li>Utilize a team-oriented approach that ensures collaboration within and across the University to better support our RAs and students. </li><li>Provide assistance with coordination and execution of Residential Life tasks and Residential Academic Program initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Sense of Belonging and Community Development</p> <ul> <li>Create a positive community that emphasizes a sense of belonging in the University-owned and/or -operated facility and at Mizzou. </li><li>Work with professional staff to provide ongoing support for RAs in developing and implementing student engagement activities (for example, floor and hall-wide programming). </li><li>Communicate regularly with the RA staff, and share ideas, feedback, and concerns with the RHC and/or other appropriate professional staff members. </li></ul> <p>Student Leadership and Development</p> <ul> <li>Participate in Hall Government and Executive Board meetings supporting the growth and development of leadership skills for students. </li><li>Provide guidance and support to student leaders through periodic individual meetings. </li><li>Provide ongoing support for programmatic efforts of Hall Government. </li><li>Provide leadership training, support, and recognition to members of the organization. </li></ul> <p>Residence Hall Administration and Operations</p> <ul> <li>Ensure administrative tasks related to the building are completed. </li><li>In collaboration with the RHC, assist with community-wide preparations to open and close the building during the academic year, including breaks. </li><li>Respond to inquiries regarding occupancy. </li><li>Assist with marketing and contracting of students in the halls and facilities. </li></ul> <p>Student Support and Wellbeing</p> <ul> <li>Provide emergency and crisis support within the University-owned and/or -operated facility. </li><li>Continue to serve on the RA on-call rotation and assist the RHC in managing the on-call schedule. </li><li>Respond to crisis and emergency situations and ensure appropriate RA follow-up after the initial situation response. </li><li>Assist RAs and students with roommate conflicts, mediation, and other difficult conversations. </li><li>Serve as a conduit for communication with administration, professional staff, RAs, and others as appropriate regarding concerns, suggestions, and problems disclosed through your interactions with students. </li><li>Provide support and referrals for RAs and/or students needing support who live within the halls or facilities. </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Receive training on a wide variety of MU programs and offerings and refer students as appropriate. </li><li>Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions scheduled by the department. </li><li>As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve and maintain our departmental and Student Affairs mission. </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment</p> <ul> <li>This position will end by Monday, May 17, 2027. </li><li>Selected students are required to maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA. </li><li>Leaving the REA position does not necessarily impact the RA position, provided the staff member is meeting position expectations. These are considered two separate positions. </li><li>RAs selected for the REA position may be required to move to a different residence hall, as not all halls will have an REA. </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>Salary: $16.25 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.</p> <p>Universtiy Title: Student Assistant Clerical</p> <p>Internal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.</p> <p>Shift</p> <p>Average number of hours per week: 15-20.</p> <p>This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.</p> <p>Must be a current Resident Advisor (RA) to be considered for this role.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher </li><li>Current Resident Advisor with at least two semesters of experience as an RA </li><li>Flexible scheduling options (mornings, nights, weekends) </li><li>Be able to work between 15-20 hours per week on a regular basis </li><li>Professional and articulate communication skills </li><li>Outgoing personality and ability to greet strangers </li><li>Excitement for public speaking, passion for involvement and enthusiasm for Mizzou </li><li>Strong organizational skills </li><li>Good time-management skills </li><li>Reliability </li><li>Sense of commitment to the workplace </li><li>Ability to work with a variety of people </li><li>Possess a passion for building community and fostering a sense of belonging for residents </li></ul> <p>Application Materials</p> <p>Complete application, and upload the following: résumé, class schedule, cover letter, and 3 or more references which must include at least 1 MU supervisor (if applicable).
