<p>Summary</p> <p>Reports to the Director, Facility Services. Responsible for planning and guiding the work activities of Facility Engineers, Plumbers, and Electricians and contractors to ensure that quality mechanical and electrical maintenance is performed on Beacon Granger Hospital equipment. Schedules the repair, preventive maintenance, and installation of equipment and systems that are supported and maintained by the Engineering Department for Beacon Granger Hospital infrastructure systems. Assists in maintaining the department quality assurance program and provides the necessary follow-up. Be on their team. </li></ul> <p>Plans and guides the work of designated Facility Engineering staff by:</p> <ul> <li>Overseeing and coordinating repair work of moderate complexity on Beacon Granger Hospital equipment, as well as the installation, repair and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems, grounds and parking areas. </li><li>Supervising the work of private contractors, as authorized, on maintenance, repair or remodeling work of more than ordinary size or complexity. Also ensuring that work is completed in accordance with contract terms and specifications and informing the Director of any discrepancies. </li><li>Making periodic inspections of all buildings and of their equipment and appurtenances, ensuring that routine maintenance and repair work is performed as needed. Also securing authorization through the Director for more extensive or costly work to be accomplished as needed. </li><li>Responding to calls for emergency repair work, assuring emergency repairs are necessary, arranging and overseeing repair services as necessary. </li><li>Coordinating moves within or between facilities. </li><li>Coordinating and sharing responsibility with Security for distribution of keys and card access readers after appropriate authorization. </li><li>Coordinating and executing preventative maintenance of all Beacon Granger Hospital owned and leased vehicles. </li><li>Coordinating maintenance surplus inventory to ensure all supplies are being utilized properly and an adequate supply is on hand. </li><li>Coordinating training for current and new team members on safety, equipment use, maintenance procedures and other related topics. </li><li>Coordinating and executing inspection and testing of all Life Safety equipment at Beacon Granger Hospital (i.e. fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, fire suppression systems, hood systems and related devices) and providing documentation to the Director. </li><li>Providing reports to the Director as requested. </li><li>Participating as a member on assigned committees for Life Safety, Utilities and other areas of responsibility. </li></ul> <p>Supports the Facilities Management team by:</p> <ul> <li>Assisting in the development of budgets, policies, and procedures affecting the Facility Engineering area. </li><li>Developing training programs and training team members on the service of equipment or other topics as needed. </li><li>Maintaining records of repairs, calibrations, and evaluations as required for TJC, Indiana State Board of Health and other regulatory agencies as required. </li><li>Updating and maintaining service and equipment files; corresponding with equipment suppliers and manufacturers on problems encountered and supplies required. </li><li>Responsible for assisting Memorial Hospital of South Bend and Epworth facilities with performing project work, maintenance and repair work on an as needed basis. </li><li>Maintaining the department quality assurance program and providing follow-up when appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:</p> <ul> <li>Performing maintenance and repair work as needed. </li><li>Completing other job related duties and projects as assigned. </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. </li><li>Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. </li><li>Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. </li><li>Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. </li><li>Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. </li><li>Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. </li><li>Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. </li><li>Complies with established organization and department policies. </li><li>Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:</p> <ul> <li>Leverage innovation everywhere. </li><li>Cultivate human talent. </li><li>Embrace performance improvement. </li><li>Build greatness through accountability. </li><li>Use information to improve and advance. </li><li>Communicate clearly and continuously. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of high school diploma and an engineering-related technical or apprenticeship program. Five years of progressively responsible experience in a healthcare environment, including documented knowledge of HVAC systems, boiler systems, pneumatics, basic electricity, plumbing, and facilities maintenance is required. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge & Skills</p> <ul> <li>Requires a comprehensive knowledge of complex commercial and institutional maintenance procedures, including basic electricity and plumbing, HVAC, high pressure steam boilers, energy management, and pneumatic control systems. </li><li>Requires the mechanical ability to oversee repairs on a variety of hospital equipment as related to trade, life safety and/or area of specialty. </li><li>Requires a thorough knowledge of shop mathematics and blueprint reading skills. </li><li>Requires the analytical ability necessary to perform calculations, interpret data from blueprints and manuals, diagnose problems with equipment, and solve problems. </li><li>Demonstrates the interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to elicit cooperation and support from others and to interact tactfully and effectively with co-workers, superiors, contractors and others. </li><li>Demonstrates the communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to articulate ideas clearly and concisely and to gather data and understand problems in support of electrical and mechanical equipment. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>May be exposed to fumes, extreme temperatures, dust, noise, and hazards such as electrical shock or gases. </li><li>High risk involved in testing and repairing equipment where high voltage and lethal energy is present. </li><li>Considerable walking and standing for long periods of time. </li><li>Emergency servicing of equipment may require work be performed outside of normally scheduled work hours. </li><li>Travel between facilities is required. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to lift, work on ladders, walk, stand for prolonged periods of time, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul>
