We strive for patient-centered care and comfort, and we are committed to serving the community and treating our patients as family.</p> <p>The 8100 Family Practice Unit at Akron General is a high acuity, fast-paced, Neuro/Cardiac Telemetry unit with patients that require extensive ADL assistance. Caregivers in this unit care for patients with strokes, pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip medications and tracheostomy care. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA), you will play an integral role in ensuring patients continue receiving the best treatment possible. You will find a welcoming and hands-on environment where caregivers encourage education, mutual support and teamwork. Each day, you have numerous opportunities to make a difference in your community.</p> <p>A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.</p> <p>A caregiver who excels in this role will:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfers or emergencies. </li><li>Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc. </li><li>Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height. </li><li>Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction and removing urinary Foley Catheters. </li><li>Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner. </li><li>Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge. </li><li>Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly. </li><li>Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area. </li><li>Document patient care in the electronic medical record. </li><li>Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies. </li><li>Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure. </li></ul> <p>Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period </li><li>Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills </li><li>One year of recent acute care experience OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1 </li></ul> <p>Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:</p> <ul> <li>State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.</p> </li><li> <p>Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.</p> </li><li> <p>Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.</p> </li></ul> <p>Personal Protective Equipment:</p> <ul> <li>Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required </li></ul> <p>Pay Range</p> <p>Salaries [which may be] shown on independent job search websites reflect various market averages and do not represent information obtained directly from The Cleveland Clinic.
