Posting Number 2016173T Department Summary</p> <p>The Senior Director of Design & Construction provides strategic leadership and oversees the day-to-day operations of the department. This includes supervising from 8-12 project managers (depending upon work load), administrative staff, and associated support staff.</p> <p>The Senior Director will lead, promote, and direct a comprehensive, customer sensitive unit and will contribute significantly to the overall direction of design and construction and the delivery of programming services to the entire campus, and will collaborate closely with the University's planning office for successful "cradle to grave" project execution.</p> <p>The Senior Director is responsible for the project development and programming of capital projects, design guidance, the selection of consultants, and leadership of the office.</p> <p>The Senior Director is expected to collaborate with department and University leadership (VPs, Deans, AVPs, Directors) as necessary to support institution and department processes and goals.</p> <p>Position Profile</p> <p>Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:</p> <p>Provides engineering and/or architectural expertise in designing and maintaining University facilities and systems. Responsibilities include overseeing construction projects, facilities planning, managing budgets, and ensuring that projects align with strategic goals. Ensures high-quality, innovative infrastructure for the University's growth. Plans, organizes, and coordinates design and construction projects. Reviews engineering plans and evaluates design proposals. Coordinates with architects, engineers, and construction firms to ensure adherence to schedules, project plans, and University objectives. Responsibilities include programmatic administration, coordination and management of projects, budgetary oversight, facilities management, and leadership of programs and services. Functions may include specialized architectural, engineering, site, and construction services; energy engineering; project scheduling, estimating, and management; and specialized research-related engineering.</p> <p>Level Summary</p> <p>Oversees the strategic planning and execution of diverse activities within a larger functional area of the institution. Leads and directs significant programs through subordinate managers, setting overall strategies and objectives for the area. Contributes to the development of University-wide strategies. Accountable for ensuring that long-term goals are met and communicating the department's alignment with institutional objectives.</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities</p> <p>Manages multiple departments or functions. Directly oversees at least 2.0 FTE employees or one or more supervisors. Has authority to hire, transfer, suspend, promote, manage performance, discharge, assign duties, reward, and discipline employees.</p> <p>Fiscal Responsibilities</p> <p>Responsible for large-scale budgets and strategic fiscal management for multiple work units or large academic unit.</p> <p>Problem Solving</p> <p>Handles significant organizational problems, often with long-term impact.</p> <p>Independence of Action</p> <p>Operates with significant autonomy, drives company-wide initiatives.</p> <p>Communication and Collaboration</p> <p>Influences and collaborates with senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders to drive organizational goals.</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>This role balances time in the office with regular site visits to facilities and project sites. Frequent on site walkthroughs of facilities and project locations, requiring the ability to navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain. Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment or materials up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of standing and walking during inspections and team meetings.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Requires a Master's degree in a related field and 10 or more years of related professional experience or a Bachelor's degree and 12 or more years of related professional experience, and 7 or more years of supervisory experience, or equivalent education and experience.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications Department Architecture, Design and Construction Pay Rate</p> <p>The proposed salary range for this position is $110,178 to $151,497 . The salary negotiated at the time of offer will be commensurate with education and experience while also considering internal equity.
