<p>The Policy Unit within the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President is dedicated to preserving the affordability and accessibility of the city for people of all backgrounds and income levels. The office is deeply invested in issues concerning economic recovery, affordable housing, health, education, and quality of life. The Borough President is committed to uplifting Brooklyn, promoting equity, and ensuring that everyone has access to opportunities and resources.</p> <p>We are seeking a Policy Analyst with a strong understanding of New York City's policy landscape with experience in analyzing and developing policy across multiple issue areas. The analyst's scope will include conducting research analysis, drafting policy recommendations, and assisting in the development and implementation of public policy priorities of the office. The position requires the ability to quickly analyze complex legislative and policy matters and identify their significance within New York City. The Policy Analyst will report directly to the Director of Policy.</p> <p>Role and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Conduct thorough research on current New York City policies and reforms, and monitor and report on current issues. </li><li>Analyze data to determine the effectiveness of existing policies. </li><li>Propose new policy initiatives and changes based on research findings. </li><li>Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on policy analyses based on original empirical research. </li><li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge on policy developments in the City and State. </li><li>Analyze developments in City and State government and prepare written briefs. </li><li>Assist in preparing and delivering testimony on behalf of the Borough President at public hearings, including those for City Council. </li><li>Give presentations to the Borough President and senior staff to initiate new policy investigations and research projects. </li><li>Identify emerging issues and policy trends consistent with the office's policy agenda. </li><li>Organize and lead collaborative workgroups. </li><li>Organize and implement special projects related to the office's policy interests. </li><li>Maintain a working network of outside sources, including public interest advocates and government colleagues to form policy research ideas and recommendations. </li><li>Communicate regularly with advocates, staff, and the community, learning their ongoing issues and needs, while providing them with resources and information. </li><li>Attend relevant community meetings. </li><li>Represent the Borough President and Policy Unit at public meetings and forums. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li><li>Must be flexible to work nights, and weekends, and attend events as needed. </li></ul> <p>COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ol> <li> <p>A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or</p> </li><li> <p>High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or</p> </li><li> <p>Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Thorough knowledge of New York City government. - Excellent project management skills and ability to meet deadlines. - Strong written and oral communication skills. - Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills. - Extensive qualitative and quantitative research experience preferred. - Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Knowledge of Brooklyn and interest in its neighborhoods/communities and knowledge of NYC agencies and previous work in a government office are a plus. - Cultural competence to effectively work with diverse stakeholders and communities. </li></ul> <p>Public Service Loan Forgiveness</p> <p>As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
